I dont pay for mine at all. Here in the UK if you have an underactive thyroid, you get all prescriptions free.If i didnt have an underactive thyroid,it would cost £8.15 or thereabouts, and i would get 100 tabs for that.

I have Kaiser Insurance, so my monthly cost is only $10.00.
Hi all, Yes it does give me dry mouth, so I just keep drinking lots of water, which is a good thing anyway. A little wine in the evening is a good thing too! So happy to have this discussion.
eating an apple seems to help too with dry mouth. not sure why but it does. You need to use mouth rinses with fluoride, etc... in them if you have a lot of dry mouth. The lack of saliva means the lack of bacteria that helps keep teeth healthy. I used to use prescription tooth paste. I've finally adjusted and rarely get it anymore but if I do, I go for the apple. ??
Hi Debbie, glad to hear you are pain free. Can you tell me what dose of nortriptyline you are on and if you are on any other meds? I am taking 70mgs daily of nortriptyline along with 3000 mgs of gabapentin and a few other meds. I still have pain and was hoping the nortriptyline would help. I am going to ask the nuero to increase the dose to 80mgs daily and was wondering what the highest dose should be before you know it isn’t going to work. Thanks you, Gizmo
Hi Gizmo, I am now down to 10 mg of NORTRIPTYLINE a day. I also take 60 mg of MORPHINE a day, and I also take NORCO. This helps with my TN along with my other pain issues. I broke my neck 12 years ago, and the fusion didn't work correctly on one side of my spinal cord. I am fine though, just have to walk with a cane. The TN (as all of us know) is the most horrible, over the top pain anyone can experience. I am thankful to have found a balance that works for me. It took a lot of years, but finally I have relief. The dose of NORTRIPTYLINE is different for everyone. Hope this helps. Debbie
I guess it is hard to tell a dosage of medication to take because everyone is on different combinations and different meds. I am surprised that 10 mgs of nortriptyline helped you because it is a starting dose but as you said, it is a balance that works for you. I was diagnosed with trigeminal nueropathy because I don’t get the lightning strikes I have burning which feels like it is coming from my tooth but testing shows nothing is wrong . I also get burning on my palate and gums. I have had this for over 2 years. I feel like I am getting some relief since I increased to the 70 mgs so I am hoping if I increase to 80 mgs I might get more relief. I am very happy you have found relief from your pain and pray everyone with TN can find relief. Gizmo
Dear Gizmo, I was on a much higher dose of NORTRIPTYLINE. They give you a starter box. You go up by the week, and then after it helps, you dose down by the week. It is all individual, like you said, depending on your other meds. This happens to be the dose for me now, after coming down to a manageable level. Not easy, and it changes for me, depending on the facial shock level. For now, it works.
Hi, I too, have found that Nortriptyline has given me my life back for the most part. It works on the type 2 symptoms that are chronic like burning gums, wanting to pull out your teeth, lol, etc.. I am either pain free on the med, or, on the worst days, have just mild pain that comes and goes. To answer Dulbis's question , on how Nortriptyline has effected my mood, I would have to say, it has made me more calm in general..Not a doped up calm, but it is an antidepressant so it just makes you feel relaxed and well... No medication has zero side effects, but I think nortriptyline tops the list as having the least side effects of many other meds out there..
Can you folks tell me what what mg of nortriptyline it helped you to be pain free. I am on 30 mg now. The pain is reduced but not pain free. My doctor told me not to exceed 50 mg but my gut feeling is i will feel good may be at 60-70 looking at the % of reduction at 20 and 30 mg. Is it safe to go upto 70mg. Please reply. Thanks
I realize that this is an old site but I’m hoping I get a response. After reading this I asked my doctor for a prescription. Can anyone tell me if you have to combine Nortriptyline with any other meds or does it work on it’s own. Getting off all of the others would be a godsend for me.
Yes Northroplyline and ACUPUNCTURE HASVE CHANGED MY LIFE. I take two Nortrip every night and have Acupuncture every month and it has changed my life. I suffer severely like everyone, but weather change (barometric pressure does me in) is a trigger. Find a good TRN Doc and help is always here. Debbie
I took Nortriptyline for 9 days and have lost my taste for everything except sweets. The top of my tongue feels dead to taste. Has anyone had that experience. I stopped about a week ago and it hasn’t gotten any better.

Hi
I have not been given a diagnosis as my dentist says I have sensitivity and my neurologist thinks it MAY be nerves in the gums. I get a pressure feeling in my lower gums under the canine teeth. I’ve had it for years but I’ve not been helped at all. Due to this I developed a fear of eating so I now live on meal replacement shakes and my health is deteriorating a lot. My GP has prescribed 10mg Nortriptyline but I’m terrified of taking it as there are so many side effects and I don’t tolerate meds very well. I’m disabled with mobility problems and use a Walker so I’m worried about dizziness. Please can you tell me your experience with Nortriptyline as I really need to decide should I take it . I also don’t like the fact you take it at night as if I had a bad reaction it’s hard getting help. Thanks
