No insurance? Financial assistance anywhere?

I know I have been posting a lot lately but I’m newer here and seeking and searching as much as I can. I’ve been diagnosed with TN. I’ll give the short story version…medications not helping, several trips to hospital due to pain, referred to neurosurgeon locally, surgeon says he can’t help me so now referring me to Dallas neurosurgeon, I’m self employed Realtor with no insurance. Ok that was short version. Haha!

My question: Is there any help out there financially? The Drs are saying surgery and I’m like “how”!! Some of you may think it is foolish that I am not covered by insurance. It has not been by choice. My husband and three girls are covered by insurance but to add me on wipes out his paycheck each week. I have been dealing with this for 8 months but 7 mo prior to all of this my 12 yr old daughter became very ill and I wasn’t able to work much for 7 months until they figured out what was making her sick and she had surgery. Now she’s great! But Then two months later I was hit with this excruciating pain and I have been very limited with my work. I have always been a successful Realtor but I am very scarce these days. Anyways, is there any assistance available that anyone can share with me? If this dr in Dallas cannot help me then I’m not wanting to waste anymore money on other Drs. I am wanting to go straight to John Hopkins where I’ve been told they are some of the best. God has provided and opened doors so far. I know something has to be out there. I’ve tried independent insurance plans but none of them cover pre-existing conditions or they won’t accept me. accept me.

Any help would be appreciated!

God bless!

Nicole

Hi Nikki

Please don’t feel you have to make excuses, many members here report similar problems. Life is hard and you have enough to cope with just now. Here is a link from the Face Pain Info for you

Also I suggest you contact Lisa a fellow moderator, she has some good advice on similar situations.

I wish you all the best with everything and going off thread I feel so happy for you that your daughter is well now, what a relief for all of you!

I dont know about in Texas but in VT I have a special medicaid for disabled people who work (disability medicaid) because i can not get insurance elsewhere due to preexisting conditions, you can check with your state social services and see if this is an option, or if they have another option for you.

Good luck.

In addition to the link Jackie kindly provided, there is additional information on managing financial hardship in our article "Coping With Crisis", under the Face Pain Info tab of our menus. There are no perfect solutions in this, but there are definitely steps you can take to qualify for free or subsidized lower-cost medical care. I also think it might be time for you to investigate conditions under which you might be eligible for disability payments under a State or Federal program, due to the limitations that TN has imposed on your earning capacity.

I found free medical care, however, I am completely unemployed and have no spouse and no income.

From what I understand, if you qualify for medicaid, or for discounted insurance through an insurance exchange in your state, you can qualify at hospitals in your state for medical care either for free, or at a discount depending on your household income.

Not sure if John Hopkins has financial assistance programs, but call..... if there is assistance, it is through the medical facilities directly.
