New Years resolutions?

Hope y'all are doing okay! Anybody make weight loss and exercise a resolution? And if so, how is it going? I personally hate making resolutions because I never keep them. My birthday is January 31, so I always make "goals" for the next year around my birthday. Last year the only "goal" I kept after my bday was to wear nail polish more often. I know that sounds like a silly goal but when my nails are painted I feel prettier even if I feel awful or I think the rest of me looks bad.

So, y'all, what are your goals for this year and how is it going? Perhaps we can keep one another accountable.

Blessings to you all!

Karen

Hey Karen, I have had type l and type ll tn. I seem to be gaining weight by leaps and bounds. I am on neurontin and pain med. My eating habits have not changed, has anyone else had this delima. My tn name is pumpkin. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and do they have any suggesions. Thanks

Welcome Pumpkin! Glad you joined us! I know that depending on what med you are on, it can greatly effect your weight. I have had this problem in the past. I was on Neurontin for a short time (only two months; it worked initally but then stopped) and if I am remembering correctly I gained 5 lbs in those short months! YUCK! Right now, I am on Topamax and I have the opposite problem. I can hardly eat anything. I am losing weight like crazy, (which I don't really mind, I have some to spare ;( )

But the problem with this is I feel weak all the time and I don't have any strength to exercise which I love to exercise. These meds do a number on our bodies don't they!! It is like we have to choose between pain and feeling like a normal person.

Are your meds controlling your pain? Have you talked to your doc about the weight ? Can you exercise or is the pain too bad? I know that I go in spurts where the pain isn't too bad and I am pretty consistent with exercise and I feel better overall but then my face gets bad again and the exercise goes out the window.

I am glad we have each other to support one another through all of this!!!

Thanks for your input. My doctor told me that Neurontin was weight nutural. It is difficult to chew so I eat baby food. I have a problem with exercise, due to face pain also. I will ask if Topamax would help me. Thank you for accepting me in the group. Pumpkin

I just started Weight Watchers. I have to lose around 200lbs. Can't believe I let myself go so far, but I felt pretty heatlty until my car accident a few years ago which hurt my back and subsequently being diagnosed with TN in February. I want an MVD, but I need to lose weight before that happens. I'm living in Canada and signed up for their emails first, a few months ago. They eventually sent me a invite to sign up for their monthly pass program at half price, with a two day time limit for the offer. I figured out it came to about $6 a meeting, so I knew it was the perfect time.

I only lost 2lb so far, but it is a start. I am on Gabapentin and Tegratol. I do take a water pill though, so I was hoping it would conteract the effects of the Gabapentin. I'm not a big exercise person, but I gotta start to see if that will help speed this along.

Anyone thinking about joining WW but can't afford it now, do sign up for thier emaills, newsletter whatever off their website and eventually they will probably send out another discounted offer. It was an online offer only and at the time, they also offered the online program for half price too.

I've been on Neurontin for years and just recently added low dose Tegretol. I have put on 45 lbs. From all the reading I've done, all the drugs have the side effect of weight gain...this not including opioids, which some people get in addition to their other meds; it will help keep weight down.Wish there was a magic pill! Wish our docs would automatically add a weight loss pill to our regime, because weight gain just fuels the fire for how bad you can feel about everything else you don't do that you used to.

About 3 months ago my doctor added gabapentin to the Carbamazapinei have been on and I gained back 25 pounds of the 100 I worked so hard to lose with weight watchers. I hate that I gained back weight and I’m wondering if it is the combination of the meds that cause part of it? I know part is me with the holidays and stress eating. Anyone else with this lovely problem?
