Hey! I’m taking 600 Mgs of tregretrol now and trying to ignore all of the facial pain while I have a blast at college however, I’ve noticed I’m having new types of pain. My whole body hurts! My body will twitch and/or tense up all the time now. Sometimes it feels like I’m on fire. Sometimes it just feels like I’ve gotten beat up. I’m also incredibly itchy! Has anyone suffered from any of these symptoms? I can’t stand being in this much pain
I switched doctors and after telling him all of this he told me he was confused and to come back in 3 weeks.
Oh there’s some other stuff. My face has kinda gone numb, more on the left then the right, and I’m more tired and grumpy then ever. I am not a sensitive person at all and I find myself offended at nothing now! Also, my skin is bruising and scratching way easier then before. Is this all from medicine?
Hello voodoo, I am not taking Tegretol any longer. When I first started taking it I had aching in my joints and electric shocks at different places all over my body and I think some others report having the twitching too. I also had trouble with it causing me to have more throat pain and pain swallowing every time my neuro increased my dosage. So he has taken me off and I have been completely free of Tegretol for a couple of weeks now. The first week off of it, I had really bad joint pain again and was extremely tired as well. I took tylenol and it seemed to help. I also noticed when I was taking Tegretol that I reacted to sunlight with pain in my eyes and forhead, that is when my doc put me on Topomax. Within this last week I have titrated down off of this drug as well. I still have some slight sensitivity and pain around my eyes from the sun and in general. I am hoping that this will go away?? as the Tegretol gets completely out of my system. Just wanted to share my experience with you. As you know, we are all different when it comes to medication. Hope you feel better soon!! Peace, Min
I would not wait – I would go to your regular doctor or whoever prescribed it to you and have them get you off it. The easiest way I find out about med side effects is talking to my local pharmacist — thats why they are there! but you can’t just take yourself off it — sounds like a baddd reaction
Sounds lik the you are not tolerating the tegretol. There are other meds that may have fewer side effects for you. I suggest you contact your doctor about trying a different medication. If he won't work with you find another doctor. The pain is bad enough, you don't need side effects too.
Hope you are better soon.

other medication used in a similar fashion would be gabapentin or amitriptyline… itchy skin can definitely be a reaction to medication. I came off lyrica for this reason. Your mood is due to your pain levels and you will snap for the smallest of things… Exercise can help with this as it will release endorphins the bodies natural pain killer and help with your mood… i cant believe your doctor said come back in 3 weeks because he is confused !!! GO AND SEE ANOTHER DR …
Hello,
Well, I suppose many things could be considered, including Fibromyalgia.
I have experienced itching as a result of opiates, but not Tegretol.
Have you consulted your doctor about this yet, Voo-Doo?
DO NOT WAIT THREE WEEKS
Call your physician and mention MALPRACTICE.
