Since I started on the Ox, and verapamil on Friday, my pain has gotten worse in my right cheek. It burns, throbs and feels much worse than when I was on Lyrica. The only good thing that I can say is that the lightning strikes in the back and top of my head have stopped. However, I am reacting to something, because I get severe intestinal cramping in the morning. I called the doctor and he said to call him in 3 weeks if I am not better. I called the pharmacist to see if one med was interacting with another or a side effect that I hadn't read about. She said to call the doctor. What a circus. I had to leave work because I felt so awful today. I am thinking of just going back on the Lyrica that I was on before. Also, cannot sleep!!! I was sleeping fine on the Lyrica, doxepin and Xanax before I started the new line of meds. Doctor gave me a sleeping pill too, but that has no effect at all because I am hurting too much during the night. I even tried the doxepin and Xanax last night and still spent hours trying falling asleep. I am so at at a loss right now. Hate the new doctor again too.
I realize that you're having problems initially as you start Oxcarbamazepine. You may adjust to the new med. But don't change a prescribed med BACK, without coordinating with your doctor.

I understand that these anticonvulsants have not so pleasant side effects, but to make the pain worse? When will the side effects subside? I'm an accountant and taking time off work right now is almost impossible. This is really hard for me. Thanks for your input. I don't know how I can function on only a few hours sleep each night. I didn't even get this sick when I was on neurontin for 4 weeks. I can take the side effects without the pain or the pain without the side effects. Why didn't the doctor start me on one new med at a time and taper me off the Lyrica?
I think you may be having withdrawal from not taking the Lyrica anymore.??? The stomach pain.
It takes a good three weeks for the Trileptal to really kick in full strength too. Hang tough D. I know it sucks. :(
Call your pharmacist. Mine has been more help to me than all the doctors I have seen. Doctors just seem to be glorified pharmacists, that can only help if they have their little white pad. (Except for E.R. docs or surgeons.) My pharmacist knew more about drug side affects, combination of drugs, withdrawal problems, etc. You might find that he/she will be more useful about medicine info than anyone else. He/she can tell you why the stomach problems, and whether you can take the Lyrica AND the oxcarb, maybe that would help until the oxcarb kicks in.
Blessings, Sheila
