I had a severe allegic reaction to the tablets I was on. It caused a rash and most likely caused my fever. I have a new doctor who is sending me to a neurologist. He took me off the carbagen (called something else in America I believe) and I do feel a million times better without the drugs in my system (the rash hurts like hell though) but I am sure the attacks have increased. Just had one in class and I couldn’t concentrate at all. Scared to eat.
It's good news your Dr spotted that rash, it can have severe consequences! You need to ask your GP to prescribe you an alternative med in the interim period. He can and needs to do this for you asap. that scared to eat thing is a nightmare, sorry.....
Amber I feel so sorry for you and the rough ride you have been having. Hope the new Doctor gets something else sorted for you soon which will give you the control over the pain so you can get on with your maths course.
I have so many allergies that I think they are concerned about what they can give me.
I’m coping better than I was a few days ago, not because the attacks are less or anything, but just because I have all my other senses about me. Its easier to distract myself from the lower levels of pain if I have my wits about me.
I sympathize with your fear of eating... I have gone to mostly a soft and liquid diet because of this. I agree that you need a prescription asap... the pain, as things really wear off, is going to increase, likely to the point that you won't be able to function... when is your appt with the neurologist?
There are alternatives to Carbamazepine, Amber. You may wish to discuss with your doctors, Oxcarbamazepine and Gabapentin, both of which seem to have fewer side effects for a lot of patients. Likewise, if your pain is of the more constant 24/7 burning, searing variety, the tricyclic antidepressants are known to help a lot of people, even at dose levels below those commonly considered to be therapeutic for depression itself.
