Hi, this is Marta from Spain, I am a patient of NT type II after a dental surgery and a rizhotomy. I have a terrible and continuous pain on the right side face (V2, V3), and in spite of poking me big amounts of demerol several times along the day, I have no relief. I started with my pain four years ago, and It got worst for a while. I tested all type of medications and treatments without relief. After a trial I am candidate for a deep cortical stimulation, but I am scared to this, because the same doctors say that the improvement after the surgery is unpredictable and the relief is at the most of 50% in the better case. I would like knowing your experience in case of somebody has been operated on this surgery and if the relief is worth the effort. I´m hopeless...
Hi Marta
Ask if a peripheral nerve stimulator is available . This is wires that go under your skin to send stimulation to the nerve, which will stop the pain impulse . The wires attach to a battery that is under the skin on your chest. It is a small operation, and has given me great relief.

Hi Marta,
there was a dialogue on this board about deep brain stimulation (dbs) very recently. You may want to do a search upper left hand corner of page.
from everything I've learned, neurostimulation (peripheral nerve stimulation, motor cortex stimulation or deep brain stimulation) are all good options for those who have struck out with other treatments/surgeries and particularly for those with type II.
as Christine said, PNS is the least invasive.
you mentioned you had trial, does that mean you had first surgery?
I know that feeling of utter hopelessness when your pain is ongoing for years and unresponsive to treatments.
I wish you all the best!!!
