My MRI came back

saw the neurosurgeon this past week he said I have TN on both sides Everything he said after was a blur because I went into shock. He is quick to want to do the surgery it seemed like. I asked for anti-depressants because the anti-sez meds didn't go well but he told me if those didn't work either would the anti depressants ...i'm so lost i go to sleep every night wishing i wouldn't wake up and wake up every morning wishing it was a nightmare

its mostly on the right side my face feels numb but i can feel touch my teeth has been the biggest most continious pain it moves around in my teeth mostly on the right side excruating pulling pain i want to rip my own teeth out. my eye has had different kinds of pain it started sharp but now it feels like pulling my temples have felt like they are being crushed the pain changes around in my face everyday like i said mostly on the right side but it has moved to the left side but it is mostly slightly achy over there nothing like on the right side

Both upper and lower mvd

Nope

MRI came back with compressions on both sides the bottom molar next to wisdom tooth had a root canal…

No but yah the root canal went bad I ended up with a swollen face and in the e.r. With a iv of antibiotics when the pain didnt stop I had it pulled

Pain went away but 3 months later I had a tooth chip off close to that and went through the same ordeal

Ive had 5 extractions

Umm I dont know I dont have it why

Hi, I can really sympathize with you as I also suffer with bialeteral TN and have recently had my first MVD done (31/10/12). What my NS said to me was that in 5% of people who have bialateral TN who have an MVD done, that it can shift what ever is pressing on the other side therefore, not needing to have an MVD done on the other side too! I seem to be not having as much pain now on my left side which is where it first started, I initially thought this was an abcess which it wasn't but then shortly after being diagnosed with TN I did have to have a root canal done and thought that would fix the problem, and again it didn't!!! Anyway as I was saying, I still get some pain on the left but at present it's not as bad as it was so I am hoping that I don't have to go through a second MVD but only time will tell.

There are a lot of people on this site who have had surgery and have not regretted it, have a look at the MVD group and also look at the Face pain info tab as this can be very helpfu land informative!

Wishing you a pain free day

Mandy : )

It's very tricky, because you do have pain in both sides and compression on the both sides, so it's make you wonder for sure if it's TN... I have Atypical pain (burning), unrelenting pain since the day i went and did a filling, but also the superior cerberal artery on my left nerve (most common for TN), i am very problematic and i know of people like me that had a vessel and done MVD, it didn't work, so they got back to their first diagnosis trigeminal neuropathic pain, which is not TN. Ask your self, Why you needed in the first place root canal? What were your sensetion prior to the root canal? if you had pain, you sure can be mistaken TN pain for tooth pain? And another question, Do you seem to get a pain that is electric blow, if you have the sharp electric hits, this pain is making you a better candidate to MVD even though it all started with a dental work
