I am wondering how many members may have had sucessful outcomes with MVD after having either Cyber/Gamma procedures? It doesn’t seem like the odds are in my favor from what I’ve read : -)
It makes it less …perhaps low 90% or below to get good relief,
but still possible at less pain for your gift!
not impossible at all. From what I’ve read…
BIG TURN AROUND IS IN PICKING
A TOP TN MVD SURGEON…
Who will give you the odds on your personal anatomy!
Get some opinions and travel if necessary.
Otherwise you can read here all day
on those who got better…not much…they don’t come back here much if better!
Good luck searching!!!
Thank you! I guess you are right when people do get “better” they are not around here much. Which is great! I know my biggest fear like everyone else’s is if you get to a point of " tolerance" you don’t want to do anything to make it worse…I think I found a great doctor at Mass General based on the recommendation of a couple of members here. Thank god because my neurologist had no clue. So I truly appreciate that information and your support! Hope you have good day…
I have often read that pain relief with MVD after Gamma Knife does go down, but the reality is you may never really know until you go forward with surgery. Is a less of a chance of pain relief, but some hope of pain relief something you are willing to risk? I find often when it comes to any TN surgery, it often feels like a crap shoot.
I totally agree with what KC Dancer said about odds of personal anatomy. My neurosurgeon started with me as a fifth year resident, when he assisted on my first MVD. He finished his residency just 15 months ago. Thing is, he is the only surgeon I will let operate on me, as he knows my case well. I had bone pressing against my nerve. The bone was drilled off the nerve, so while I have no padding in my head, yes, technically it was a decompression. As it was a birth defect that caused the problem, I totally understand, while wanting the odds, it may not happen. If you can get a 2nd opinions.
My heart is with you, Sarah
Hi Kristin. I had my MVD after having gamma knife the month before in 2009. I had a whole pain free year after my MVD. Unfortunately it slowly started coming back. I have since had 2 radiofrequency rhyzotomies. I am having a wonderful pain free period remission since March of this year due to the rhyzotomy. I hope this helps. Laureen
