I would like to share with everyone about the cost difference for MVD surgery in US and India. Its been more than two months since I had my MVD surgery. As MVD is a major surgery I considered whether I should have it in the US and so did a cost comparison.
On reading different posts I found that MVD surgery in US costs around $40,000 to $60,000 or maybe more. These are figures I got from various forums and might not be accurate. Here is a link to one such post (in it search for the $ sign).
My surgery cost was less than ₹90,000. This translates to about $1600. It included all the costs- hospital charges (I was in the hospital for a total of 5 days with 2 days in ICU), surgery costs, medicine costs, costs of medical tests done before the surgery etc.. So, as you see, there is a vast difference in the cost.
Note: The charges might be different for foreign nationals.
In one of the posts I read that it costs about £7,000 in the UK (assuming that the cost mentioned in the post I read is accurate). There is the link to the article. I am surprised that the costs in UK and US are so different.
