Microvascular Decompression Surgery - Is It Working?

I had MVD on July 21 and must admit, it was a major operation! The doctor told me that there were two arteries resting on the trigeminal nerve and also a vein beside it. He carterized the vein and placed 3 teflon pads under the arteries. But aside from a powerful headache and soreness at the site of the surgery, I was discharged from the hospital two days later to recuperate at home.

I still felt "twinges" while in the hospital, but the doctor told me that was normal since the trigeminal nerve was still inflamed and it would take a while to quiet down. I am still on 300 mg of neurontin three times a day. After 5 days, I did not feel any twinges, but still had the headache and the surgery site was still very tender. I could live with that. In addition, I noticed a soreness in my inner ear and dizziness.

Yesterday evening, I had a strange aching in the left side of my head, temple area. Went to bed after taking the neurontin and about 30 minutes later, my head ached so I took 2 Advil. When the room temperature water passed by the left side of my mouth, I felt the strong burning/aching on the left side of my temple - this pain lasted 20-25 minutes before quieting down. So now, I am so concerned that the surgery may not be working!

Does anyone have an opinion about this? Am I over-reacting to this attack?

Would love to hear from any and all, especially Red!

Thanks,

Paula
