Hi Marina
I;m just curious where abouts in Canada you are.The reason I ask is if you are in Ontario or Manitoba ther is great hope for you.Western hospital in Toronto has a emergency dept and if all else falls you can go directly to that emerg ofcourse a emerg doc will see you but because it has one of Canadas best Nuero wings they will probably set something up fairly quickly for you to see a appropriate physician.
If you are west of Ontario ther is a great surgeon in Winnipeg Manitoba who does take emails Dr. Anthony Kaufmann who is very familiar with TN.
I hope this information can help…Godbless

Hi Marina,
I hope it works. I know the feeling of being drugged. I take 3600 mg of neurontin, 450 of trileptal and tylenol 3 (3 a day).
But my pain is being managed and I am thankful. I would love to get off the medicine though.

Brian, Im living in Sydney Novia scotia…Not many Nuero docs here. But i do know there are some in Halifax.Im hoping next week when i go back to the pain doc that he can refer me to one out in Halifax. Thanks for ur information…

Liz i feel worst today when the increase of my med.Having that drugged out feeling is gross. The only place or thing i fell like doing is goin back to bed .Sad part is thou i only have to get back up to take more pills.

I got very similar response from neurosurgeon last week. I’m not buying it. There has to be more and I’m going to find it. HE had alread told me that I have been on the twelve most effective med combos and still having trememdous pain. When I ask what should I do next, he told me to start over on the meds and MAYBE one will work this time! I am so frustrated and angry at being “dismissed” by him. Going for second opinion next week. Hang in there and keep searching for the right doctor. Don’t take no for an answer.

Hi SHaron …Hard isnt it when docs want to give up helping u"but they are the ones that dont know what the pain is like…Hope everything works out on ur second opinion.Keep me up dated…

Marina,
I had those same words from my neurosurgeon, sorry I only do surgeries. Nothing more I can do, you’ll have to go back to your neurologist. Well, even my neurologist is running out of ideas. I pray that for all of us that our doctors are given the knowledge & compassion on how to treat their patients better. I was told to go to a myofacial pain specialist. It’s sad, but I think I can’t afford anymore doctor’s appointments. I don’t have the energy. I just pray for a miracle for all of us.

HUGS to Julie

I got almost the same speech from the neurosurgeon. I was crushed and absolutely devastated. He went on to say that even though all of the medications have failed within a couple of weeks. The combination I am on now is Baclofen and Lamictal. I have been on this for 35 days. I have had lots of pain but I have had periods of a pain-free “remission” also. This is the best I have been anyway. Tomorrow I am travelling to another neurosurgeon for a second opinion on having gamma knife surgery. So I do feel your pain and frustration. Remember there are lots of doctors, keep looking until you find one that is truly interested in finding help for you. I am so fortunate to have a great neurologist that will not take no for an answer. Hang in there girl and keep in touch!

Marina,
Google, Dr. Anthony Kaufmann. He is in Winnipeg and just did my MVD 6 weeks ago. I suffered with TN for 2.5 yrs and was on just about every medication there is. The worst one for me was Topomax…terrible side effects. I found that 1,800 mg of Tegretol worked the best. But, if you want a great Neurosurgeon, check him out. If anyone can help you, he can. I flew there from Alberta and would do it again in a heartbeat. He is the leading expert of TN in Canada.

Good luck,
Bonnie Gray

Thanks Bonnie

Hi Marina,
I feel your frustration, it makes me angry that these doctors dismiss us. Dr. Duma in CA did my gamma knife & pretty much dismissed me because I had gotten worse. So, now I’m seeing a myofacial pain specialist. I told him that finances weren’t good, & to please work w/ me on payment. It’s sad because I stopped seeing him because I wanted to get away from the meds. And here I am, back on them. I truly hope the pain doctor you will see has knowledge & compassion. I hope the pain goes away for all of us.
