I’m currently taking 300mg of Lyrica a day for my TN after an unsuccessful few months of Tegretol. So far so good but I’m only about 2 weeks into it. Just curious what others out there think of Lyrica. I don’t feel as tired as I did from the Tegretol but it’s very expensive! Any info is appreciated!
Suggest you investigate alternate sources for Lyrica. RxNGo is a low-cost mail-order US pharmacy which supplies over 1100 commonly used drugs at discount prices.

Thanks for the info! I’ll look into it. One month of Lyrica here in Alaska is costing me about $200 and there isn’t a generic.

I have atypica TN — I started Tegretol about 6 mo. ago and it's gotten better but not fixed. About 2 weeks ago my pain got really really bad and my neuro started me on Lyrica 2 weeks ago. I don't feel like it has kicked in. Well, I did feel mentally like a roller coaster for the first week but pain wise, I still feel terrible. My samples ran out and my husband tried to fill my prescription tonight and my insurance denied it so tomorrow we'll see if my Dr. is able to appeal, otherwise I'm in the same $200 boat. I got 2 pills for $5 to hold me over :) I just read the book, Striking Back (http://www.amazon.com/Striking-Back-Trigeminal-Neuralgia-Handbook/dp/096723932X/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1321937218&sr=8-4) ... which has totally made me feel empowered. It goes through every anticonvulsant and every antidepressent used to treat TN and which drugs are better for what symptoms, their cost, etc. So if Lyrica doesn't work for you financially, I suggest trying this book out and check out the drug list there. It's super informative and will give you a better idea about all of the drugs available and what may be a better fit for your health and pocket book. Cheers!
Hi Jenn,
I was on Lyrica for several months and didn't notice any improvement. I quit taking it with my doctors approval which was a relief because it was just too expensive. I was previously on Cymbalta (for pain) and it seemed to do more than the Lyrica. An added bonus is that Cymbalta is coming out in generic form soon.
I’m going to look that book up on Amazon. Thanks for the info. I am not a daily TN sufferer like I read about others on this website so I’m not sure if Lyrica is working or that I haven’t had a flare up yet. Before I switched to Lyrica I was on 600mg of Tegretol and I had 2 severe paralyzing flare ups in one week and decided to call it quits on the Tegretol. I gained almost 15lbs and all I wanted to do is eat and sleep. My husband said I wasn’t the same person. I feel so much better now energy and memory wise that I really hope the Lyrica takes away my pain.
