I just joined and am looking to have MVD, I have already had PSR and it hasn't helped for long (about 9 month) but now the TN pain is back. I get the heavy electric shocks and it usually last for 30 minutes at a time. I'n thinking about MVD but I've heard some pretty scary things about it and that it does not have a very good success rate. So maybe I'll try to stick with the meds????
This is a good video. MVD can be very successful for people with Classic Type 1 TN. I think the success rate is 80%. What is important is to look for the right neurosurgeon. Someone that has done many of these surgeries and has a high success rate. I have Type 2 TN so my situation is different then yours. I'm sure some others will join the convo. I just wanted to post the video for you.
Hi. Sorry your pain has returned. There is a wealth of info on this site and links to other sites... I agree with Justjane 37 . When considering MVD, the neurosurgeon and facility are paramount in importance. Where are you and can you travel if need be?
I had MVD surgery in July of 2011 and it fixed the issue. Not sure of the success rate after other procedures have been done but it can vary fairly significantly. I would advise to do your research and have someone along on your appointments to pick up on things you might miss, write your questions down ahead of time. Good luck and let me know if I can provide any more info.
