My husband's neuralgia is located in his left eye and in his forehead. I am wondering if there is anyone else in the support group who experiences neuralgia primarily in these two locations of the face? If so, what treatments have you tried?
occipital neuralgia
put this in the search box above - several discussions on this
also in the "Groups" tab here - there is a group for occipital neuralgia I believe
Some have eye/forehead---1st branch
some have cheek and jaw---2nd branch
some have chin and jaw and teeth--third branch
Hi I get TN pain left eye and left side of forehead i.e. 1st branch. I am on Tegretol 1300mg, Cymbalta 60mg and Amitriptylime 75mg. dulls pain somewhat. I have Oromorh for breakthrough pain but this is ineffective.
Mine is 1st and 2nd and a little 3rd. When I am bad I feel like someone is ripping my right eye out.
Hello. I occasionally have pain in my eye socket. The majority of my pain is in my teeth and nose. Sometimes it feels like a stake is being hammered up my nose. I’ve tried gabapentin, tegretol and carbamazepine , and Oxcarbazepine. Either they didn’t provide enough relief or I had debilitating headaches. Now I’m on OXTELLAR XR, which is the non-generic for Oxcarbazepine. It’s more expensive but the side effects are less. Hope you find the answers you need.

, Stephanie, how long have you had TN? My pain is above, behind and below my rt eye. My neurosurgeon tells me if I do nothing I will eventually get pain in my rt jaw. I have had this for 12 yrs and am having a mvd in Feb.
Hi David's wife - I too have left side forehead and eye pain. In addition the pain is down into my left check and was in my left nostril. I have tried every imaginable med. MVD and Gamma knife. Massage, physical therapy, dry needling, accupuncture, cranial manipulation, ultra sound, oxygen treatments, vitiman B shots, TENS, you name it I've tried it. The meds work but leave me with different side effects. I have not found one yet that allows me pain relief with little or no side effects. The MVD fixed the pain in my nose and a portion of my check but did nothing for the eye and forehead. Gamma Knife left me no relief but lots of numbness around my eye, and upper and lower lip. I hate to tell you but I will be honest so that you know the stakes in all this. I was terminated from my job in October due to the mental clarity issues involved with the meds and too much sick time away from work on the really bad days. I am lucky enough to be collecting disability at 67% of my previous salary. Currently I am on 1200 mg of oxcarbapzipine, 900 mg of gabapentin, 10 mg of baclafin, 60 mg of Cymbalta and lots of different vitimans daily. With Tramadol and Oxycodone for the really bad days. It is working for me for now, since I am not working outside the home any longer. I hate having to take the Oxycodone because on those days I am stuck at home unable to drive.
Thank you!
