Living in Palm Springs with TN

I need anyone suggestions of treatments or procedures for Trigeminal Neuralgia. I know there must be others beside Microvascular Compression, which is too dangerous for someone my age. I became aware of this illness about two months ago and do not seem to be able to find a clinic that can do any other surgery or procedure then MVC, which will not work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions for a procedures and clinics. Thank You! Sincerely Yours Jim Smith

If you are otherwise in good health and have no history of high blood pressure, stroke, or cardiac problems, you might still be considered a candidate for MVD. However, if you are concerned for any such procedure, another approach would be RF Rhizotomy. The procedure can be done in a doctor's office, though in someone our age, it might instead be performed during a one day hospital admission with an overnight observation period. You don't mention your medications and you seem to be only a few weeks after your diagnosis. What options have you been tried on so far?

I would agree with Richard, medicine can be extremely effective for many people with TN, it has definitely helped me, though it took me several months to find the correct dosage with the help of my doctor. It also took nearly another year to fully tweak the dosing to prevent me from getting too many outbreaks since I have type 2 instead of type 1. I would still recommend trying meds first.
