Lamotrigine and chest pain

Has anyone taken lamotrigine- lamictal and ended up with heartburn and chest pain.? My Neuro gave me this medication for my TN. When I reached 100mg I started getting nauseous and wanted to vomit. So my Neuro cut me back to 50 mg. Now I have heartburn and chest pain. I would like to hear from anyone if they are going thru the same thing. Thank you for your help.

If you google for side effects you’ll get a list that includes nausea, chest pains, rapid heart beat… Basically the same mixed bag this category causes in general. Usually it’s a matter of slowly titrating the dose to the lowest dose that helps.

The serious thing to watch for is any indication of rash.

I have a birth defect hole in my upper stomach valve that gives me severe GERD, I have 24/7 heartburn my whole 27 years of life, so I don’t know if my Lamotrigine is making it worse (how do you judge if something got worse if you are already being treated for severe symptoms) BUT when I go above 50mg a day, I get nausea and nasty intestinal cramps. I would assume heart burn and related chest pain might be a symptom for me if A) the nerves in my esophagus were not burned to the point of numbness so I can’t feel acid chest pains any more, and B) I was not already on extreme acid reducers to treat my GERD. Because it certainly messes with the rest of my digestive system. Hope you can get it figured out!

Just got a script for it myself. Thanks for the heads up.
I hope that whatever it is that has happened with you goes away.
I think this is why my family doctor hates the meds. You never know if it is them or the problem causing the difficulty.

Hi Hope it all goes well with you medication hits everyone differently. But for me after a week I had chest pain. Which went away when i stopped the medication.

Thanks Jess
I will probably start it next week.
How long before you noticed the chest pain?
I am with you.If a new drug causes problems it is because my body does not like it.No point waiting for side effects to go away.If you end up in emerge they say well if you knew it was a problem then why didn’t you stop?

Hi again it started the second week after I started taking it. I had nausea two days before. And it did not help cutting back. Hope this helps Jess

OK
Thanks so much
