Have just read an article by major doctor here is Israel , Professor Oded Nachlieli (the article is in hebrew - so i won't put a link here).
HE says things we already now - but it's VERY informative.
he talks about nerve damage after dental work (or dental injections). describbes neuroma of the nerve (when the nerve tried to regenerate itself in un-healthy way)
he also says this if the injury after a dental work is treated less than a year, preferbly 3 month- the doctors can intervine and expose the gums and help the patients.
he says some surgical procedures that can be done (my english isn't that good to translate it).
But he says that afrter a few monthes (and not more than a year) any try to help the lingual or alover nerve - are doomed to fail - since the nerve started to beome like a scar and can not be healed :((
he says this very decisively.
This is so fraustrating because had people were diagnosed by dentists in time -and had there been available apointments to experts in time - some people could have been "saved" given a first aid treatment in time.
he says - in this kind of nerve damage - timing is everything.
i think it's tragic that people's life could have been rescued - if it weren't for a wrong medical protocol .
Many cases - like mine -- TN caused by whiplash --- while I was under anesthetic - oral surgeon jerked my neck around to pull a wisdom tooth on the opposite side of my TN
Doing over a year of research - I have found that it's possible that since I've had MANY people rear-end my car - and have had whiplash over 5 times --- that what this idiot did - was just the last straw.
Some people are born with this also
Many are dental related
I have come and gone and come back to the "why me" --- why did the most premier oral surgeon in the region mess up my life?
But if I dwell on it every day - I get nowhere --- This idiot caused me to have BRAIN surgery! He was sued for this before - and made the lady look like a lunatic with his lawyer.
keep coming here for support -- and perhaps read my posting on first page - top -- about our feelings about TN for us and family members
Kimberly
dear KC - nice to read !
how can you be so sure of your story ? i mean that "shacking the neck during treatment" causes etc...
i mean - that DOES sound reasnoable, and the pain is REAL - but i always wonder - how can you be sure.
you know - about a "rear car" acccident - I ALSO WAS HAVING AN ACCIDENCT where my head went back and forward ! but - it happened AFTER the initiatl tooth pains.
i suffered greatly with the tooth pains... after that bacame neck pains .. and two monthes AFTER i was having a very very minor car accident, and my head was thrown (but VERY SLIGHTLY) and i reminded to myself all the time - that the pains occured about two monthes before. so i wont' lose track of things and think the accident caused it. who knows.
Cleo - my english is not vert rich - i didn't mean "fix" the nereves.. .but in the arcticle he referes to procedures such as cutting the nerve or something. he talks mostly of causes where the injury is felt in the toungue . and feeling of numbness mostly.
i wish i could bring a translation.
the name of the doctor is Oded Nahlieli . and i googled and saw the name of the articles in English :
Effect of dexamethasone and dipyrone on lingual and inferior alveolar nerve hypersensitivity following third molar extractions: preliminary report.
Quantitative sensory testing in trigeminal nerve damage assessment.
published in the Journal of orofacial pain
all the best for you all friends.
I woke up from the wisdom tooth pulling -- "I've had bad teeth all my life, more than 5 crowns, more than 3 root canals, more than 3 extractions, more than 10 fillings"
soooo --- actually the week before, he pulled a tooth in front of my wisdom tooth - and I chose novicane due to price of going under - he was yelling at me and jerking my neck around - and then proceeded to tell me that I better come back in 2 weeks to get the sideways wisdom tooth out, or it would cause me great jaw problems.
Well, after this first "normalsish" tooth extraction" I had little tiny shooting pains when I ate and smiled, -- - made a special appt.--I told him about them and he said just come back for your most important extraction Next Week! -- nothing on Xray
So when I went to the 2nd appt. , had to put me under - said he would be digging and cutting - "and let me reiterate he IS THE premier oral surgeon for my area" LOL
So I wake up and there is blood all over my arm from IV - nurse has a very pale face, and he pats me on the head and says to come in for a recheck
FOUR hours later I was in the emergency room -- screaming in pain, tazer-like lightning bolts on my cheek-- a very stron med called dillauded did only work for 30 min. worst pain of my 48 years-- made childbirth seem like a carnival!!!
A couple of weeks later - I had been sent for CAT scans, Xrays, MRI -- and kind neurologist said TN
I called our local UMKC Dental College - and asked for the highest man --- he INSISTED - TN is never caused by dental work --- that is a joke -
researching is your friend !
