Also I recently found out I have extra branches of nerves in my mouth. It is why I take 3-4 times the amount of novacane when doing dental procedures. They started using something more powerful for me.
I have three molars on the left top side that are very sensitive. I often think, maybe it is a 'real' toothache. But my dentist has xrayed and said they are fine - its just the TN. He told me to tap each tooth when they have a lot of pain and if they are decayed they will 'really' hurt a lot.... When I do tap them with a metal spoon handle or something similiar, they do not hurt - actually sometimes the pain immediately goes away... strange - but at least I know its just the TN and sometimes it relieves the pain.... expecially when I am in remission and not wanting to go back on medication...

That's a damn good theory, Lisa. I know when I get upset about something and start ranting and raving about some injustice or another, it always starts to hurt like merry hell, so yes, definitely agree with that one.

My theory is blood pressure. Anything that raises or dips it, causing stress on blood vessels, can cause it. Stress and sweets di both for me.
Eeek - extra nerves? More to hurt? Oh, I don't think so. That's a rough deal. I know at least one of my teeth had an extra root when it was root canalled, but I don't think that's uncommon.

Hi Gail, I know what you mean. Very much so. Worrying about my teeth versus TN takes up far too much of my time! I've recently discovered that when my teeth are triggered by TN (I think!), one of them really hurts to bite down on, but as soon as the pain from the hot/cold wears off the tooth stops hurting completely and you can bite away on it all you like. I don't know what the hell to make of that! I put it down to the vagaries of TN. Really someone should compile a bible of symptoms and that would make it a lot easier for all of us...
