Just wondering if anybody on here is on disability payments, I have had ATN for 3.5 years now, i went through anxiety, severe depression, panic attacks i pretty much lost my mind. My ATN is sensitive to cold breezes, sound and touch, it effects my eyes also my body, for some unknown reason the pain from my face travels through my chest, arms, back and then legs. There has been a been a cold breeze here in Sydney for about 3 days now witch is y i haven't gone outside.
I was wondering at what point does a person with ATN or TN become disabled because the doctors i c dont diagnose TN or ATN all they do is just give everybody anxiety tablets like there lollies.
I can go into any doctors office and tell him my symptoms and i know he will say "its just anxiety" even thou the myfacial surgeon showed me where the trigger is on my face. That is what i had to put up with for 3.5 years.
sounds like you need to see a neurologist, and possibly a therapist who can verify your condition and the affects of the nerve pain. the way disability works is that if you are unable to perform work that is equivalent to your experience ie a lot will depend on your education level, age and the severity of your conditions. I personally would not recommend disability if it is at all possible for you to keep a job. On the other hand, disability doesn't have to be forever. Sometimes you can try to re-educate or return to work, and get off the disability. Personally, my medical records and an evaluation done by the Social Security appointed physicians was proof enough for an approval. I guess I would try to find doctor who specializes in TN pain management and diagnoses and one who understands what this condition can do to a person physically, emotionally and mentally. My problem is lack of education and the inability to physically work under the strict rules of unskilled labor ie attendance rules, breaks etc and that is the conclusion that the Social Security Rehabilitation Counselor concluded after hearing my case, and learning of the severity of my neck, shoulder and nerve injuries.
I was driving yesterday with the windows down and a cement truck passed by loudly.. triggered a pain in my face!!! My point is things like this..you cannot predict. So how can you hold a job really. Things can come up in different situations depending on everday life. I was on all meds at the time this happened. Even my breakthru~oxycodone~ It only lasted for a couple of minutes mind you, but depends on your severity of pain. Some can work, some cannot. I only work part time and it's not a stressful type job anymore. I hostess/ waitress. I do ok with it. My two cents worth. Min
I'm a RN and had to quit working at the hospital. Have had only temporary or part ime jobs since my MVD 3 years ago...flu shot nurse, foot care nurse. Low stress. I still have daily pain, though nothing like before, cold air , breeze, air conditioning, loud noises or even loud voices trigger pain. And sometimes I think stress triggers it to a point. My husband doesn't understand why I'm not looking for something more substanial that has medical benefits, but I just don't feel up to it. But I don't think I'm at the point of disability. I did have it many years ago for 2 years, it was a lot of paperwork and a lot of waiting, but then they paid me retroactivly. I think there is a site on her about filing for disability, I haven't looked at it though. I hear many people get turned down the first time and have to re-apply. Take care.
