I kept swearing that my problem was sinuses. I have had this happen several times over the course of probably 15 years. It would flare up for a week or so and then go away. The first time it happened I had just had some dental work done on my upper right back teeth. Just a few days later I start hurting really bad. I go back to the dentist, he checks my teeth and determines there is nothing wrong with them and sends me to my medical doctor. He said it was a sinus infection and gave me antibiotics and within a week it stopped. Over the course of many years it would flare up like once every few years and then after some antibiotics it would stop.
This time it started and I took antibiotics and it hasn't stopped. After going to the Ear,Throat, and Nose specialist first and having my sinuses checked he referred me to an oral surgeon. After it was determined that it wasn't my teeth or my sinuses, I was referred to a neurologist who diagnosed me with TN.
But I still have so many sinus related symptoms. Of the morning if my nose is stopped up, my pain is worse in my jaw. And my sinuses are swelled. I look like the cartoon character "Droopy Dog".
My teeth hurt. Especially the bottom one that has a gold crown. I have always had really bad teeth. My permanent teeth had cavities when they came completely through. Thankfully I always have had good dental insurance and have had extensive dental work. I actually have PTSD for dental work.
I DO have lots of sinus problems and when they are acting up, my TN acts up. I think it's because of swelling inside....maybe it makes the artery/vessel press on the nerve more. I can sympathize with you. I also think when barometric pressures are making big changes, my TN acts up too.
After I found out what TN is, I really didn't want to have it. So I kept insisting that it was my sinus. But the MRI plainly showed that nothing was wrong with them. I have only been diagnosed for two months. It is all so new to me. I am scared when I read other posts of people that are completely dibilitated over this disorder.
my right nostril pops all the time i think cause of swelling and unswelling...and i sneeze all the time for no reason but i read sneezing comes from ur trigeminal nerve.
heya, yes i had similar issues, then started to not smell as well, bad taste in the mouth etc. after like 9 years or so and a few mris and ct's they descovered a very large cyst in my maxillary sinus as well as severe chronic inflamation. Its not like i had regular colds, just a feeling of fullness..teeth hurting, face aching, pressure feeling stopped up, that sort of thing, also night sweats and regular low grade fever. Some of the symtoms have improved since i had antrostomy? i believe it was called..removing the cyst and scraping out all the dead and inflamed tissue inside that sinus. Some of my bone had rotted away too which explains some of the agony but of course my nerve is left affected..
