I know it's been a while since I posted anything, our computer situation has been a nightmare to say the least. But that has not been the only reason for my absence. I went into another remission and this one seemed to last for months, actually I suppose it did. Maybe I should start keeping track of this, but I didn't.
Anyhoo, at the time I was on Tegretol 400mg 3x daily, and wanted to see if I could get off of it during a remission, so I began lowering the dose. First down to twice daily and I did fine, other than an occasional twinge here and there, so I tried to just ignore those twinges. So, then I went ahead and lowered it to 400mg once a day which put me into absolute terrible pain. Due to that I am back up to my full dose.
And at the full dose I have had quite a bit of trouble with word recognition, which I have heard is common, right? Well, my mom has alzheimer's disease and is not doing well at all. The other day my daughter who lives with husband and I came into the living room to ask if fried potatoes sounded good with our meatloaf and I got this really strange expression and said "You can't fry a potato Somer, what a silly thing to say!" And first they all laughed because they thought I was joking, but at the time, which lasted for about 45 seconds, the thought of fried potatoes sounded completely and totally strange to me. I have been making this dish for my family for almost 30 years now. And my husband says this is not the first time something like this has happened.
So I guess what I am asking here is whether or not any of you have had similar episodes. I look forward to any and all input. I really have missed you all, very much!!
WELCOME HOME ALI…You were missed and hope things are better. Sorry you’re back on meds!
No I don’t think your “episode” is uncommon. I’ve had incidents like that when I was increasing my medication dose. I’d say something that didn’t make any sense to my audience but it made perfect sense to me!?!?!
Hope you’re feeling better each day and know you were missed!

Thanks Gloria, I cannot begin to tell you how relieved I am to hear that about my episodes. Since my mother was diagnosed years ago my sisters and I have discussed more than once how much more likely we are now to get Alzheimer's, and of course, it was the first thing Andy thought of. And thanks so very much for saying I was missed, makes me feel better just to hear it. Much love!! :)
That happened to me when I first started taking Lyrica and my boss looked at me like I had 3 heads cuz it was something I should have known easily. I'm am glad to see your smiling face again too Ali :)
To Min and Jackie, I've missed you both so very much. I have really missed being here and talking with you all, and more importantly, knowing that I have you all to rely on when I need you, much love to you both!! :)
hi, yes this has happened to me also and not only have I got words muddled up in sentence but also I have made up completely new words at times ! I do find a theme tho and find that I do this more in the house when I am trying to express emotion when speaking, usually when I am rushing to do something or I feel upset about something ...........again as with other members on here, people around me know this is a side effects from medication and are patient however I am still off work sick and have no idea how I would manage this in the world of work !!!
