How to a god patient?

Ok after fighting intense TN episodes for soooo long I’m 5 days on the other side of the MVD surgery and I have ZERO TN pain, but the pain from the incision (pics up on my caring bridge site —> www.caringbridge.com/visit/albee ) is brutal. I’ve been transferred home successfully and have almost adjusted, but I’m very weak and abilities are currently diminished so it was declared that I am a mod-high fall risk meaning I’m restricted to a single level and need to be adult-sat 24x7…as it turns out I’m a bit of a control freak and for all my thinking and planning through many scenarios plus putting contingency plans in place, I didn’t spend anytime on learning to be a good patient esp while 100% dependent on your caretakers…

So seriously if you have a link to or tips on how to be a good patient please respond ASAP

Be nice to yourself and worry about others later. Caretakers are there to help you. Let them. Your body has been through a lot lately so try to rest and give yourself time to heal.

I went to bed for 2 solid weeks and didn't lift anything, bend over or do much of anything the two weeks after that!!!

I mostly slept on meds the first two weeks - so if you need to - get knocked out so you won't feel the need to control anything!! This is not the time for anxiety, worry, panic or any deep thinking!!!! Sleep is when your body makes automatic repairs = more sleep = more healing!

Just rest!

#1 thing to remember - it takes ONE year for nerves to heal - so if you get a twinge or a low/med/high level of TN pain - see your doctor and wait the year out on your calendar!

I do not know what to tell you since I am a control freak also. But I am sooooooooo glad your surgery seems to be a success. Good luck! ((((((hugs))))))

YeY Albee!!

So great to hear from you…I checked your site the day of the surgery, anxious for news…So glad that your surgery went well.
NOW time to rest and heal!

If you’re looking for a laugh…go to damnyouautocorrect.com it makes me laugh on my darkest days when nothing else does…it’s pretty funny.

Just try your best that’s all you can do…good luck being a good patient!

Most importantly do as you’ve been told Albee, lie down and rest…soon enough you’ll be strong enough to do for yourself.

Positive vibes! (( hugs )) Mimi

Allow yourself time to heal, allow those who love and care for you, the chance to do that which you would do if needed. Allow yourself a massive pat on the back for going through all this and coming out fantastically on the other side.

Maybe if you push yourself to think about how you are likely to heal faster and safer if you relinquish some control for the next several weeks and just relax, then later you will be back to your previous self again. So happy to hear that The TN pain is gone. blessings.

Hi, glad to hear you are recovering and experiencing no TN pain. Congrats!! Get your rest and you'll be back to your pre-TN self in no time.

Best,

Rick

Thank you everyone for the encouragement so get this…mentally I could not switch off the “grinding through it” mentality I had in place with the TN but now after 4 days home I “get it”.
Wrote about it in my journal today, take a read should you care to…here is the link:
