How Long

I went to the neurosurgeon yesterday to set up MVD. My NS doesn't do it but his partner does. The partner can't even see me to discuss until July 7. I was hoping to have it done, over with and back to work by July. When I agreed to Gamma it was that quick.

This may sound like whiny baby blogging. I think it just might be. I am calling the other NS in my area then I will look in KC and OKC also.

I am just frustrated. Its a big decision to make. Once made, many plans have to be taken care of.

A friend of mine (also a doctor) told me I could expedite the MVD if I go off my meds and go into E.R in massive pain. I would be admitted for pain management and given my history, MVD would be an option presented. ...Um, go off meds...the only thing that keeps me functioning, barely...um, no. I appreciate his effort. When he found out I was on 1600mg of Carbatrol a day, it made him a bit nervous. Good thing he is my friend and not my doctor.

It seems like you shouldn’t have to wait that long for surgery. Don’t you live in a large area? I had mine within 2 weeks after seeing the surgeon. And he assures me in most cases I won’t have to wait a week if I get in severe pain unless he happens to be out of town. I can’t imagine going off my drugs just to be in severe pain and hope for an earlier surgery. Are you in severe pain or somewhere below that?

Liz, I live in amedium metro area. We have 15 NS in our area. Only 4 do MVD. Three are in the same practice and extrememly busy. I did find a fairly new to the area NS with a not so busy schedule. I meet with him next wednesday. I am hoping to have the surgery scheduled for late May.

Going off meds is not an option. My own version of hell. (Oops)

I am hopeful it will all work out. Ever the Pollyanna.

Thank you. I will keep the site up to date.
