I have been fighting an episode for about 2 months now after 2 good years of remission. Had it under control with tegretol generic than had a week of meetings where I had to talk a lot and also had a tremendous cold occur. At end of week it exploded to almost full blown GPN. Had to add neurotin generic and Elavil generic and finally started getting some relief. Haven’t tried to talk much yet and talks are coming up that i need to talk. Been hell as you all know. Can’t tell if its ending or drugs are just working better. I am kind of zoned out but better than pain. Wonder if i should up Neurotin slightlly (taking 1800 mg/day now and 1200 mg of tegretol) to fully cut the pain. Near each round of drug taking it can get painful until next round of drugs cut in. would like to get back to full talking, especially since that is part of my job.
Hi Ron,
Sorry to hear of your recurrence. I’m new to the illness and management. Hoarseness from talking was the first sign of my first attack. When you say “remission”, do you mean controlled by medicine? I had hoped that remission was a break in symptoms allowing discontinuance of medicine, which are too sedating for me. My neurologists don’t know anything but pill treatment and what they and I read. I upped Neurontin from 1800 to 2400 and pain subsided.Thanks.
Jimmy
Remission llckily means no problems at all, and off all medicine. And it can relatively short (a few months) to years. Mine had been a few years without dealing with it at all.
