HCN2 Gene Discovery - as it relates to chronic nerve pain!

I'm not a researcher so forgive me but I came across some news releases from Sept 8 2011 that have announced a new discovery in relation to neuropathic pain.

Researchers in Britain have been able to relate the gene HCN2 to Neuropathic pain. When manipulating the gene (blocking?) in mice they were able to eliminate neuropathic pain while still being able to maintain the pain (acute pain) that lets you know when you've hurt yourself.

They say this is great news for patients with chronic pain conditions. Time will tell I guess! Perhaps someone with more medical knowledge can shed some light on this discovery in terms of what it may mean for TN sufferers who have exhausted all their surgical options.

For anyone that knows the ins and outs of medical research: typically, how long does a discovery take to make it from mice to men?

I fail miserably at my Mac at home. If anyone can, please repaste this link to the news article in their reply so you can actual drill into it.

Oh, Elaine! Thank you for sharing that wonderful glimmer of hope. I'm sure that if we can just hang in there, a cure WILL come. It's just a matter of time. If the answers don't come from this group of scientists, they will come from others.

Hi Elaine,

Put site into my favorites. Now I've got another site where an intended 5 minutes of poking around leads to hours of poking around.

Your fault for keeping us up late into the night.
