This post is just an FYI… I receive one of the medical journals on pain mechanisms, primarily geared toward physicians who specialize in pain management. There are two articles in the last few months that got my attention. One is an article on the impact of genetic testing, and the other, the importance of doing (serum) hormone panels in patients with chronic uncontrolled pain. These two articles suggested that with proper testing, reasons for poor pain control can often be identified.
I am just bringing it up b/c I know there are some of you who struggle with poorly controlled pain. It is important that you know I am NOT a physician - I am a registered nurse. Due to the nature and etiology of pain mechanisms, I would imagine (but don’t know for fact) that this would be more applicable to Type 2 TN. Also, I do not know if these tools would translate well to trigeminal nerve pain, but I thought it might be worth a conversation with your doctor if you have tried everything & still struggle with constant pain.
