I had MVD on Nov. 26 of last year. My neurosurgeon was Dr, McKhann of New York Presbyterian- Columbia University Medical Center. He was kind, understanding, flexible, patient, and a very thorough surgeon. He was very personable and really cares about his patients. My surgery thus far has been a 100% success!
Thanks so much for providing this information, Carole. I live in NYC and have been doing research for a good neurosurgeon here for when I go ahead and have MVD. Hope your success continues!
Thanks for sharing Carole, I live in NYC and am looking for an understanding and thorough surgeon. I will look into DR Mckhann when I am ready. Wishing you all the best always!! Jasmine
Hello Carole - That is wonderful news. So happy to hear your surgery was a 100% success!! I live outside Philadelphia and contemplating the surgery but still afraid of making the pain worse. If anyone has any advise on this topic I'd be glad to hear it.
Thank you!
AV
Thank you Carole for this wonderful news about your doctor and successful MVD. I live in California but would consider going anywhere for this kind of help. It is so difficult to find a doctor who truly understands TN type 2. I love that you are pain free and feeling good. Thank you for telling us about your success.
Thank you all! I have been so lucky in my TN journey with having excellent, supportive doctors looking after my care. I have read other stories about patients basically being abandoned by their doctors and it breaks my heart. The link I posted in my original post is the way to request an appt.
After reviewing other Dr recommendations several people also gave great reviews to Dr. Babu of NYU.
What is MVD Please explain?????????
Gaylon, it is short for Microvascular decompression surgery. I just had it done for Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia. Not sure of complete success yet. I have to " let the smoke clear" per my Neurosurgeon.
Microvascular Decompression is a procedure to separate and isolate nerves which have been compressed by blood vessels. It is the most effective and long-lasting of the surgeries used in TN

I was on lyrica and cymbolta and it was terrible . At first the meds helped but it was having to be increased rapidly. I wished I had done the surgery yrs ago. What is MVD Please explain?????????
