Going for gamma knife treatment tuesday has anyone done this
Hi
I had the GK done a few months ago. I am still healing from it but did notice some improvement right away. My neurosurgeon said it can take a few months to get all the full effects from it. I have ATN on both sides so I am getting ready to go back and have my second GK done.
The worse part of the whole thing is when they screw the halo frame into your skull. I wish someone on here would have told me about it. They take and line up two screws in the front and two in the back then they take needles with numbing meds in them and numb the areas (that hurts the most) then they turn the screws to secure the halo. All you feel with that is pressure. The rest of the day is a breeze. So really the worst of it is the needles for the numbing agent for the halo. But you will do great! we are all here for you and I will pray for you.
You can message me and let me know if you want to talk or have questions.

Thanks, I go on Tuesday and after 16 years of managing it I am hopeful that this will help me. I am also anxious about the halo but my doctor said that he will be giving me a twilight drug which should help with the anxiety. I am glad to hear that it provided you relief so early. I hope it will do the same for me. When are you scheduled for your second GK. I hope it works as well as the first.
I had the Gamma Knife Procedure, no pain. They did not screw anything into me. There was a special face mask made that fit my face very tightly and they screwed that to something. The only thing that hurt was sitting in place for so long. I was not allowed to move at all. I had no numbing agents, didn't need them. There is pressure, its only hard to still so still. I really wanted to move around in the chair. It took around 45 minutes from the time they started with the machine doing the radiation. Oh, I was given some relaxing pills (10 mg of valium) before because I requested it.
You are also welcome to message me if you want to chat more.
My best wishes to you! Lori
Oh! My gosh that sounds absolutely awful, your all very brave, I have had MVD, and that sounds a breeze by comparison. Unfortunately it didn’t work, and I have been offered a GK, I’ll just see how I go I suppose…
At the moment my pain is being controlled with medication…
I hope your procedure goes well, and you let us know the results, all this information is helpful to others.
Much love, I’ll be thinking f you, hugs Anne
was your procedure effective? and if so how long did it take to feel the relief.

To me it sounded much scarier to do the MVD so I admire your courage.
