Has anyone had gamma knife to attempt or hopefully treat gpn? I would be very interested in knowing how you made out? Several years ago I seriously contemplated it and after newly joining this site it seems like the decompression surgery is what people are trying but I just wanted to see what was going on with the less riskier gamma knife???
I've had MVD and it was unsuccessful. It has a 2 out of 3 success rate for GPN, more or less. I am looking at some radiation techniques as well, a neurosururgeon at UCLA has recommended "focused" radiation over gamma knife. He said gamma knife is more widely used for trigeminal neuralgia. I'll post more as I learn more.
I have a family memeber that used Gamma Knife for TN. He actually had the procedure done twice. It did not help him. He had the MVD surgery and has been pain free. One problem that was told to him after surgery is that they can see an early onset of dementia due to the large amounts of radiation from the Gamma Knife. So, please keep that in mind.
Thank you so much for the information. I will definetely keep that in mind. I was leaning against the gamma knife and I am so much more so with your information. I have a consultation that I just set up to speak to a doctor about the MVD surgery. Glad to hear about someone trying the gamma knife, but sorry that it didn't work, it would have been nice to not have to go through the other surgery but it sounded too good to be true.
