Gamma Knife results

I had my Gamma knife procedure on November 7th of 2013.It took about 8 months for my pain to go away completely.I still take one 200 mg pill of carbamazepine at bedtime, just to keep it in my system. At first ,after the GK,I had about 2 months with no pain, but the pain came back and I neded 400 mg of carbamazepine daily. At least this 400 mg was less than before my GK,when I was taking 800mg.So far I am now very grateful for my no pain way of life, except for a few, I guess old age body aches, which I can tolerate. The GK procedure was not difficult for me at all,oh except when they fastened the head frame on me.The discomfort was minimal.....Good Luck, stay pain free....Dave W

Hi Dave,

It’s good to hear you were pain free for awhile after the gamma knife. I am supposed to meet with a neuro surgeon to see if this would be a good option. I am a little nervous about it, but your post is encouraging.

A question I have for you is whether there was a recovery time right after. Were you able to resume normal activities after fairly quickly? Or was there down time? Just wondering if I’d be able to return to work fairly soon after the procedure if I were to go for it. I am willing to try anything, even if it means it’s only a temporary fix. I was pretty good on Trileptal for about 8 months but I am now in flare up mode and no medication is working currently and I am at wits end (I know this goes without saying). It is actually worse this time around.

Hello Dawndrew.Yes I was able to resume my daily activities the same day of the treatment. with no side effects at all. I hope everything goes well for you.,,,,,,Dave W
