Gabapentin Maximum

Has anyone taken Gabapentin in dosages above 3600mg a day if how High

One of my physical therapists took somewhere around 7000 mg a day but hers was for epilepsy and I believe a tumor. Yes, that is more than the limits. Oddly, she was able to work and no one would be the wiser. I am prescribed for 2400 but try to stay at 1800-2100 day. At 2100-2400 I don't get anything done.

My doctor shared with me that is the maximum.

That is just about what I take daily, the side effects for me are word retrieval, forgetfulness, and tiredness

I take 3600 daily. When I am having particularly bad attacks in the evening my neurologist says it’s ok to take extra and go to bed. I do that sometimes and it is helpful but I feel extra groggy the next day. Actually what I find the best to boost my evening gabapentin is a zanax.

I’ve seen someone on here in the past who takes 4500.

I had a long discussion with my neurologist today about meds. She has approved me to go up as high as 5000 gabapentin to test my tolerance. She stressed the importance of getting ahead of the pain and to increase or take extra as soon as I feel the pain edging up. She also knows of patients who take as much as 7000.

I thought you could take higher than 3600mg but my Neurologist keeps say no .

Thank you Bellalarke

You’re in a difficult situation if your neurologist keeps saying no.
Perhaps you have to keep saying you need to try more and advocate strongly for yourself. Or get a second opinion from another neurologist.

I’m also going to add Lyrica and if that doesn’t work Lamotrigne. It’s been five years since my first attack. MVD helped with some issues but not others. Now I’m working on really staying ahead of the pain game and have as vital a life as possible. I also take tramacet (tramadol) to boost the gabapentin and give me some energy.

Wishing you the best with getting what you need.

Thank You I thought it was Ok I will have to have a talk with my Neuro about it He put me on Dilantin and it is working some I can at lease talk and eat some
