Gabapentin 100mg

Has anybody been on gabapentin 100mg 4mg 4times a day and still have facial pain
I’m taking total 1600mg a day and still suffering
With pain… What does it take to knock it? Any takes?has anybody
Been in this same boat… 1600mg is a lot of meds…

The maximum dose range for Gabapentin is 3600 mg/day. My wife has had success in managing her bilateral Type I / Type II pain at a daily dose of 2700 mg, and many others have likewise. Not everybody tolerates this or any of the systemic anti-seizure meds. But Neurontin and Oxcarbamazepine seem to be better tolerated than most.

Wow !! I thought I was on alot… I’m waiting for the dr
To call now … I can’t eat
Or hardly talk… Thanks Red !!

I just started taking Gabapintin at the end of May. I am currently at 1500 mg per day for 2 weeks and I am still having alot of pain and burning. Next step is 1800 mg per day. My neurologist said she would adjust it up or down as needed to control the pain and burning. If it is not enough to help control the pain, you should call your Doctor. Take care and God bless you.

I've been on gabapentin for 4 years. I started at 300 mg/3x/day and now take 800 mg/3x/day - so well on my way to the 3200/3600 maximum, but have not had to increase in almost 2 years. I still get break through pain from time to time, but it is in no way debilitating, just surprising when it happens. During the first two - four weeks it took a lot to get used to the fuzziness, but either my body adjusted and I'm not as fuzzy, or I just got used to it. Biggest annoyance has been memory issues.

I'm on 1800 mg a day now, every few days or so I get a 'shock' or two.

Have you considered adding another med to take with the gabapentin? Some people find that adding another med is more effective than just increasing your dose. I hope the pain calms down for you soon.

what is another med i could ask my dr for ? I'm on Aitvan 1 mg...

Baclofen, Flexeril, or low-dose Valium are frequently combined with the anti-seizure drugs like Gabapentin, as "boosters" in pain relief for TN.

Just out of curiosity, since this discussion is about meds, has there been use of prednisone for TN? I doctor I saw on an unrelated matter brought up the idea of pred.

Gabapentin alone has never helped my TN. I am now takingper day

2400 mg Gabapentin,

400 mg Dilantin,

300 mg Lamictal

200mg Tramadol

After seeing your post Red about the Flexeril, I have some and think I will take that before bedtime tonight instead of the tramadol - use it for daytime

All of the above and I started a new trigger point the day before Easter. I have not been able to brush my upper teeth on the right since then (almost nine weeks). Can't hardly handle that, I can feel the plaque building up, I can tell I am starting gum disease. I am in a real mess cause with all this I still have shocking pain and burning.

I have had failed MVD so I am afraid to have any other procedure done but I have to do something.

The Dilantin used to take care of TN, those days are long gone. Talk about being depressed, I also have started on a low dose of prozac at night.

I take Nortriptyline with Gabapentin. The combo works well enought that my dosages of each aren't that high. Nortrip 75mg and Gabapentin 900mg. I have a few other meds too but those are the main ones. There was also a new member added to the Canadian group last week who is also only on Gabapentin. Her blog indicates it is not working that well on its own either.

Keep asking the Doctor for new options. Hopefully you will find a magic combination. Sometimes we just get used to a med and need a change. Even a combination that works for a few months is better than what you have now.

I am on 900 mg per day. It helped with the jabbing pains, but I still have the constant tooth pain. Naproxen seems to have helped with that today. I started with 100 mg 3x per day, but he tripled the dose to 300 mg 3x per day. I’m only on the neurontin for about 10 days and just 3 days on the 900 mg. Every day seems to be a small improvement. I just don’t want the sharp pains to return so I am trying to be very careful and mindful of what I eat and do. Hope you are feeling better.

Everyone be careful with Gabapentin. Protect your stomach and intestines!!! It worked great for me but burned my insides - I do have ulcers, IBS and gastritis, so that probably added to it. I have no problems with burning with 300 mg/day Lyrica, but just to be on the safe side I also take probiotics (Sustenex) and drink non-fat milk a few times a day.

I eat with all my meds, never take on an empty stomach but I still fear what all these are doing to my insides.

Don't have any choice though, could not stand the pain without.

As for Lyrica and any other brand name meds, I cannot afford them.

Medicare does not pay anything toward them, it is a sad situation but true, have to do with what we can afford.

Maddy, when I had the terrible pain while brushing this is what helped. I used a very soft toothbrush of course and tried to relax my mouth as much as I could first. Then I brushed very very slowly and lightly over the teeth that were the trigger points. If I hit an electric shock I tried to not react to it but know I had made the decision to touch it and I was really in control, if that makes sense. I tried to just watch it happen and not fight it. Usually after it once hits strongly like that you have a short window to finish the teeth before a pain hits strongly again. At least this is the way it was for me so hope this may help a little. Take care! Mary

MaryHelenL, I just may try that, I have a childs soft toothbrush that I can sometimes very lightly run it over the front of those teeth, but I cannot do anything else and I cannot floss, which I really need to badly do.

Seems if I try and brush too mu;ch I really pay for it later with horrible pulsing and burning and hits.

But, I may just try it again, Thanks for your input. Are you able to floss?

My doc just increased mine and warned me that the results with Gabapentin are not lineal. That is to say that if 1800 works a little that you won't necessarily see an incremental improvement as you increase the dose.

Since the increase did not make any difference he therefore said lets try increasing it again and see what happens. He did suggest that if you go through a couple of increases without any improvement that is most likely not the answer.

Hippi, for me taking the Gabapentin is for helping the Dilantin work better. I really didn't know that before, I thought it was for my Neuropathy and decided to cut back on it. Didn't take long to find out about it working hand and hand with the Dilantin.

Now I am able to floss but when the pain was bad I know it was hard but somehow strangely easier to floss than to brush. Again everything at an extremely slow space which may help the relaxation. For some reason for me changing my mind from thinking I was not in control to deciding I was made a huge difference. I tried to fool myself and say I did not care if the pain hit.
