Mary, I tried brushing like you said, for some reason it worked, lol. Hope it will work again, I even flossed them a little. I had never pushed it cause my Neurologist said not to do anything to irritate that nerve, he said be very careful flossing (this was before the trigger point went here) So, of course if it hurt, I quit as as not to irritate it.
This support group is wonderful for things like this. Doctors don't know everything we go thru and it is difficult for them to sort it all out when they don't really know what we are feeling.

Maddy, when I had the terrible pain while brushing this is what helped. I used a very soft toothbrush of course and tried to relax my mouth as much as I could first. Then I brushed very very slowly and lightly over the teeth that were the trigger points. If I hit an electric shock I tried to not react to it but know I had made the decision to touch it and I was really in control, if that makes sense. I tried to just watch it happen and not fight it. Usually after it once hits strongly like that you have a short window to finish the teeth before a pain hits strongly again. At least this is the way it was for me so hope this may help a little. Take care! Mary

Gabapentin alone has never helped my TN. I am now takingper day
2400 mg Gabapentin,
400 mg Dilantin,
300 mg Lamictal
200mg Tramadol
After seeing your post Red about the Flexeril, I have some and think I will take that before bedtime tonight instead of the tramadol - use it for daytime
All of the above and I started a new trigger point the day before Easter. I have not been able to brush my upper teeth on the right since then (almost nine weeks). Can't hardly handle that, I can feel the plaque building up, I can tell I am starting gum disease. I am in a real mess cause with all this I still have shocking pain and burning.
I have had failed MVD so I am afraid to have any other procedure done but I have to do something.
The Dilantin used to take care of TN, those days are long gone. Talk about being depressed, I also have started on a low dose of prozac at night.

I was at 3600 mg per day when I was first diagnosed and then later when I was having breakthrough pain. I am lucky that I tolerate the gaba really well, but unlucky in that it finally stopped working all together. The dog has me on new meds now...and the tegretol isnt quite as tolerable for me. :(
Hi. I've been on 1600mg of Tegretol and just added gabapentin. My doc started me low, 100mg 4x a day. It's been two days and if there's any improvement, it's miniscule. My doctor said to wait a few days and if it didn't help, to double my dose to 200mg 4x a day. Can anyone advise - does two days seem like enough time to wait before upping my dose? Thanks.
hi donna i take 3thousand 600mg of gabapentine a day and it dosent take the pain away completley i still get the pain in my jaw and teeth and side of my head iam on these tablets 1 year now and also take 8 solaphdol a day there pain killers
Zapgirl, two days sounds to me a bit short for tapering up as much as your doctor has suggested with Gabapentin -- particularly if you also have Tegretol in your system. Call your doctor's office to confirm schedules, please.
Does anyone get heartburn about 30 minutes to an hour after taking Gabapentin? Also, does anyone know why this medication indicates no heartburn meds for 2 hours after/before taking it?
Many heartburn preparations have a coating action on the upper GI tract. Such coatings can interfer with the absorption of other medication. Fewer than 5% of patients in trials of this medication reported "dyspepsia" -- upset stomach or indigestion. But this number was larger than in placebo.
