Forget my meds

I am on 700mg of Tegritol per day. I have forgotten to take my pill twice now over a period of 5 months. Both times I only realized I forgot it because of the intense pain I had after only missing it after 2 or 3 hours. I feel very grateful for Tegritol as much as I hate the side effects. Is it normal to notice the pain so quick after not taking their meds?

Some people are quite sensitive to any reduction in blood levels of Tegretol or other anti-seizure meds, Collette. Others not so much so. I can only speculate that the variance might have something to do with different degrees or types of distributed nerve damage in the trigeminal system.

Thanks for the reply, I actually find it helpful that I am sensitive to the reduction because then I know quickly if I am in remission or not.

I use my cell phone to set alarms as reminders to take my meds. It really helps.

That is funny that you say that because I tell my kids to do that all of the time. Practice what you preach! As long as I remember my cell phone I am golden! Thanks for the advice Crystal.

I take Trileptal twice a day (morning and around supper time). If I wait more than 2-3 hrs from normal time that I take it my pain starts to come back. As long as I take the Trileptal I can almost forget that I have trigeminal neuralgia. But skipping a dose is a potent reminder that the medication is 100% responsible for my ability to function without severe pain. Therefore, I rarely forget.

I take lyrica with the same results. If I wait too long to take it that's when the pain begins to come back the worst. So I am "normal", lol!
