Fever over 4 weeks post MVD Surgery for TN

My mum has constant fever post MVD surgery along with extreme fatigue and headaches. It's her 4 th week of fever . All tests are ok except high WBC's shown on lumbar puncture. Has anyone had this on the forum? Need desperate help. Not getting much help from the Surgery team. They suspect Aseptic Meningitis but are not telling us how long the fever lasts ? Can it be a reaction to Teflon? I recall one member John had this on the forum. How do I get in touch with John? Kindly help

Ann.

Sorry to hear your mom is experiencing this. My fevers would be low grade during the day and spike rapidly each night.. After 8 weeks from the MVD the fevers suddenly stopped. Steroid treatment did help me, but it would start again once the treatment ended.

I Had 2 lumbar punctures and also had high WBC, which is somewhat normal after the MVD. The WBC does lower as time goes on. Like your mom, they called it aseptic meningitis. The brain believes the Teflon does not belong there and reacts until it gets use to it, it just takes time. Everyone and their bodies are different in how they heal. so I understand why the doctor s are unable to guess when the fevers will subside. Hope this helps and that your mom's fever end soon. John

Thanks a lot John for replying. We did a third lumbar puncture yesterday and WBC’s are still raised though more polymorphs than Lymphocytes now. She has been on heavy dose of IV antibiotics and Aciclovir . They are trying to treat her for both bacterial and viral meningitis, low grade fever and headache has gone but still raised WBC’s and protien is scaring us! They dont seem to have experience in dealing with Teflon allergy. I just hope my mum’s problem settles as well. Could you please send me your doctors details. Thanks again

John, could i please have your email add? If its ok could you pleass let me know how high your WBC’s were? Grateful for any help as we r going through hell every day with this uncertainty . Hate to see my mum being pumped all these medicines with no cause identified! My mum’s surgery was on 5 th Jan and its nearly 7 weeks now. Whats surprising is her fever goes when she is on medicines. Just hope and pray her case is similar to yours and WBC’s come down!
