Duloxetine/cymbalta?

Hi all.I have been reading some letters from the doctor at pain clinic, and one of the many pain meds that have been suggested (most tried but not with good results for me) ,but one i havent tried is duloxetine ,when you google it,it also says cymbalta (spelling). I am increasingly frustrated at sore dry mouth, and becoming a bit of a bloater from the use of nortriptyline, although for the pain,it was a god send. Its not working as well as it was. What are peoples views/experiences on duloxetine/cymbalta.I just want less fattiness, and less dry mouth. many thanks in advance. Barbara

My PC doctor put me on Cymbalta 4 months ago for anxiety/depression. I have not noticed any major symptoms with it except possibly a bit more dry mouth (not really much) although that is difficult to tell as I live in FL and it has been brutally hot here. I also seem to have extreme heat sensitivity. Whether that is attributed to Cymbalta, I have no idea. My friend also recently was put on Cymbalta for similar reasons and she is doing very well on it. My dose is only 50 mg as it is in addition to Gabapentin (2400 mg).

I am in agreement with Jamie...I would rather gain weight and have a little dry mouth than be in pain. For the past year, I pushed away offers from drs for med increases, etc. but I am tired of it. Being in pain takes a toll not only physically but also psychologically.

Hi all.I get what you are saying about pain versus dry mouth/weight gain.I would prefer the latter .I am trying various non alcohol mouth washes that moisterize the mouth,i am on biotene, and have bought oral seven too. My mouth drives me bonkers, and am always 'sucking teeth' or sucking my cheeks for relief, its become habitual. I am trying to stop it,but it drives me mad.I am with the pain doctor next week and may have a try at the cymbalta,as these nortriptyline are losing effect and i dont want to go back down the 'i want to smash my head against a wall route'. Whoever finds a cure for ATN or TN will be a wealthy person. Many thnaks for your replies. Barb

Haha, Barb, I know what you are saying about sucking teeth. That tends to happen when I am talking to someone and mouth is like I am in a desert. My teeth stick to my lips and I'm sure it's quite a sight. I am usually too embarrassed to keep licking my lips like a crazed woman so I suffer thru it until the conversation is over and then guzzle water, lol.

I have never heard of oral seven..what is it?

Barbara, This is probably not much help, I was only on it about two weeks because I could not handle it any longer it made me so sick to my stomach to the point of vomiting twice.I was hoping it would help with pain and depression.I couldn't give it long enough to see. Wish I could of been more help. However in those two weeks I did not notice either one of your problems with it.Hope you find something that works for you. Wishing you the best Dawn

Hi dawn.I cant get along with the anti seizure pills, but others can.I can only talk to the pain doctor Tues, she may suggest weaning off nortriptyline first,im not sure if you can mix the 2 ,but cant be sure. Thanks dawn

Lol,i was in a first aid course, and was talking to the teacher,my lips were ,or at least 'felt like' they were sticking to gums, tongue, and inside cheeks,i could feel myself pulling faces, just trying to get saliva. I am taking 1 less tablet just to be able to get saliva, and to go to wee better. Im just hoping im waking up tomorrow and this nightmare is over.

Oral seven is a mouthwash, ive never used it,but its recommended for dry mouth,i am on biotene at present, but bought oral seven online out of a dental shop,so am hoping my mouth will feel normal again. Having dry mouth is not good for your teeth,it causes decay, and other issues,so i chew lots of sugar free gum,but again gum chewing can create 'acid' as your stomach thinks you are going to feed it,but of course your not,so it has produced acid,so i get acid reflux, and again acid reflux is so bad for your teeth, its apparently as corrosive as battery acid,so i have to try and keep my mouth moisterized, and very clean,as the reason im in pain is cos of my 'teeth' ,and do not need any added aggrivation......sigh
