Does anyone experience dull pain for long periods? Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to. have dull aches or pain compared to the other. I’m just curious. It keeps me very tense. It’s as if I’m just waiting for the intense pain to strike. Is it because the meds are becoming less effective? Also, I’m beginning to feel dull pain on the other side. I’m thinking I might be having sympathy pain or just being a hypochondriac. Can anyone with bilateral tn tell me if it began that way for them?
my pain is a constant semi-dull achy pain. BUT, I get the stabs/ shocks too. I dont know why the dull pain is there i figure the nerve is just upset. BUT (lots of buts I know) I have only recently been diagnosed and I have only had the pain at all for around 2 months now. since it started it never went away. I have done research and I know there are others out there that experience the same as I do but i have yet to figure out why. I am still waiting on a neuro appointment (damn insurance) but I’ll make sure to ask about it while I am there
Curious - Does it get worse when you lie down.
I have typical TN but I experience this a lot too.
Mine gets that way and it gets really hard to get comfortable with a pillow.
Usually worse between 4-9pm (when Im laying down).
It does get worse when I lie down. It’s strange , but if I lie really still… I can literally feel waves in my face on my tn side. As far as pain goes, I get both the awful, stabbing pain and the dull pain. Luckily for me, the stabbing pain is only when my meds are becoming less effective. Right now I’m up to 1150 mg trileptal, 100 mg lyrica, and 90 mg cymbalta. The longest I’ve gone without raising one of the meds is four weeks. I’ve only been on meds since January. It’s screwing with my sleep too. I either sleep constantly or I sleep for an hour at a time. This is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever experienced.

Im getting to wear I dont lie down until its bed time
One thing I have done thats made a difference as far as sleep - you might want to talk to your doctor about this
I take one muscle relaxer(flexiril) and one nortryptolene one hour before bedtime
most doctors dont really have a problem with this since if they see how it will improve your sleep habits
the muscle relaxer puts you out and the nortryptolene keeps you sleeping
nortryptolene also is an anti depressant which helps me
again next doctors appointment you might mention it
hope this helps
Robyn,
I also experience anxiety about the pain getting worse and I still think of the pain so many times when I do things that used to trigger the pain - like brushing my teeth and washing my face. I think about it every day. But I try to thank God when my pain is controlled and when I do those things without pain. I don’t think I will ever get over the thought of the intense pain returning.
I also take a sleeping pill when I am experiencing increased pain. The neuro said that lack of sleep does not help pain. And I know my pain is worse when I am tired. I take Restoril.
