My mom's too scared to have her morning tea or coffee because she's worried it will have an adverse effect with Tegretol.
Normally, I wouldn't think so. At least I haven't heard any conclusive reports to that effect. Be aware, however, that caffeine can raise blood pressure. If your mom gets mid-morning surges of pain in spite of morning medications, then she can try the experiment for a few days and lay off caffeine containing beverages (including colas). Keeping a pain diary will often help to reveal such patterns.

Asmara, Hi, I am new to TN and this website. I was diagnosed Dec. 14 2011 by Neurologist who put me on carbamazepine. I drink coffee every mornong. 1 and 1/2 cups and it dosen't bother me. I do not suffer from headaches at all and it could be different for you. It seems to be cold things that bother me. Kimburlee
I make my morning coffee half decaf and half regular. That way I don't get too much caffeine...
I drink quite a bit of caffeine (to combat the exhausting effects of the meds) and take Tegretol throughout the day (3 times) and haven't noticed any real effects one way or another. Though, your mileage may vary, and keep in mind that Caffeine is an upper and Tegretol and such are downers and can generally not be a good thing to go too much of.
(for example the people who have ill effects from drinking energy drinks combined with alcohol)
I'm a gold card holding Starbucks junkie. When dosed up on Tegretol, I have had no effects over times when I am not. Have a nice, rich cup of coffee and enjoy (unless perhaps as Red wrote you are BP sensitive to caffeine - I believe there may be correlation between high BP and TN pain)!
"always consult your Dr."
I've been on 200mg, sometimes more, Tegretol for years and I drink a few cups of coffeee and tea every day. I recently went off it for a while because of heart problems and it didn't make any difference to my TN. There's always decaf but it's not so nice.
I take 2400 mg of Trileptal and have NEVER had an issue and I have had this nightmare for a veryyyyy long time. So, I think she would be ok.
