Does changing your position cause you pain?

Hi, I am new to this site and so happy I have found people that are dealing with this horrible problem too. I have noticed that every time I change position i.e. lay down, sit down, bend over I will get the sharp shooting electric shock pain to my right check, jaw, and tongue. Its to the point that I don't want to move my head. Does anyone else experience this? Does anyone know why? Thanks in advance. :)

Absolutely, I have read members sat their Dr’s have said it is not possible. But I assure you many of us are affected as you are, I even avoid shoes with fastenings when my TN is extreme.
Unfortunately I am unable to give you the reason, I assume it is because the movement triggers the nerve. I cannot even turn my head slightly to talk to my DH in the car. It’s a thief.

Hi jen. Yes movement can definitely make pain worse. X

Yes, I have the same problem, especially when I get up from laying down or move in the night. I sleep on the sofa or a recliner and prop myself the best I can because if I should accidently roll onto my right side the pain is intense. Of course this is worse during my break through episodes, but even during good times I have to be careful of movements.

I have found shifting my position so that no portion of my affected side is touching anything. I have slept sitting up for years (literally), but when I do lay down for anything, such as watching T.V., I make sure no part of me that could possibly trigger an episode is touching anything.

Hi Jen, I definetly agree that movement does play a big part in my pain. It was actually my husband who noticed that when I laid a certain way, that I would complain about the pain getting worse. Walking also cause pain, I gues its the jostling motion. And my doctor also said that that should not be a factor. What does she know when so many others suffer from the same triggers.

I completely agree about position causing you pain. I even have a certain position that relieves the pain, briefly. If I lean my head over to the TN side shoulder, I get some relief from it, but I can't keep my head that way or I would have a whole other host of problems. It has to be that the nerve is being irritated worse by the vein(in my case a vein wrapped around nerve) in some positions.

Sometimes when I turn my head a certain way to talk, I get a little jolt and if I have the phone on that side, it will do it sometimes too.
