It's a long shot but I thought I'd ask, out of idle curiosity. I have a congenital anomaly called Poland Syndrome, which is structural defects caused by interruption to the blood supply to the subclavian area during foetal life. I was reading about it recently and the list of ways in which this can manifest is long and people with Poland syndrome will only have some of those physical manifestations. All of them are in the upper thoracic and neck region and I wondered if my TN was caused by a physical malformation of something that could have been caused by whatever caused the Poland syndrome.
So, does anyone else here with TN have anything else like this, or even have the extremely rare Poland syndrome itself?
I have an Arnold Chiari Malformation, which is a structural birth defect in the cerebellar tonsils, causing the brain to herniated into the spinal column. My neurosurgeon feels this is probably related to my bilateral ATN.
I have a chiari malformation. Basically my skull did not close properly in the back and my cerebellum kinda "slid" down and puts pressure on my spinal cord and brain stem. My TN and CM pretty much constantly trigger each other like some sort of long drawn out reaction.... THe CM is about 1 in 1000 births...I have not heard of your condition, though.
I just got the news yesterday that I have an Arnold Chiari Type 1 Malformation. My file has been faxed to a neurosurgeon and I am waiting for some news. I've had facial pain since the age of 18. It started on the right side of my neck and I now have been diagnosed with TN. The meds kind of help, but even then touching my chin will act as a trigger and i'll feel pain even though i'm on nerve medication AND Codeine.
