Doctors

Ok, I finally got an appt with a neurologist in Dallas. I've wanted for a while to see someone up there but I've had so much going on and I finally stopped long enough to call! When they finally got back to me to schedule my appt, they just got me the first available appt, May 1st. The date isn't my problem. When I started researching the doctor after getting off the phone, I discovered he is in their memory dept, dealing with issues like alzheimer's and dementia. Should I call and see if I can get in with someone else in their headache dept or just try him and hope he may know something or he can get me in quicker with someone who may know more?!?! My pain is currently controlled by meds but they make me like a zombie and with homeschooling 5 kids it just isn't good!! TIA!!

Is your doc on this list of favorites from here ???? Dallas area: Get with one actual TN patients.

Call whomever is giving your meds to you CURRENTLY

..... ask for lidocaine face patches, and see if that can lower your meds for now.

Till you get In with a Neuro WITH TN experience!!!! Be aggressive in your research---- I know that you are a zombie......

I know its hard - but here is a good list!

Dallas:

Baylor (Medical Center?)

Dr. Samuel Fin

University of Texas Southwestern

Dr. Samuel Barnett

Dallas Presbyterian Hospital

Dr. Richard Weiner

Dr. Krusz

Texas Neurology -- 6301 Gaston Ave., Dallas

Dr Steven P Herzog, MD, (Neurology)

Anna Parton, nurse practitioner http://www.southwestpaingroup.com/

Fort Worth

Dr. Chin

My appt is at UT Southwestern. The 2 Dr's I've seen mentioned on here from there are both surgeons. Do I start with a surgeon or try to find a neurologist working with them and go from there??

This is depending on what you want… Med change… Neurologist

…for your TN1 to have a long term (90%+) remission chance
A TOP MVD surgeon

Do not go into a rhizotomy, cyber knife or , gamma knife. Without months of your own research and would need surgeon.

Most surgeons will want you to see a neurologist first, as they do not often want to operate until the is a history of medication failure.

I saw Desoloms at Presbyterian. He's a neuro and a surgeon.Very experienced with tn.I had Gamma right next door at their cancer center because i wasn't a candidate for mvd.Working for me great since mid July.I would find someone with tn experience definetly.Good luck.May is a long time.I would see someone else.

I wouldn’t go to him, find a Dr who specializes inTN only. With 5 kids, don’t waste your valuable time. I have four children and I gave no time to waste

Either. Get right to the source, you’ll be glad you did

I have never seen a neurologist that specializes in TN as it is a rare disease, and they will not get the patients they need for their practice. Most neurologists have a working knowledge of nerve neuropathy. I have also seen patients go to doctors held up as specialists, and they got horrible care. It may take more than once to get the proper treatment.
