I have asked my Neurologist and he says, "I don't know Cindy" So I am asking you.....what do you do about Dentistry? I need a lot of dental work, but no way will be able to do it with my TN. I could probably open my mouth and handle a minute of probbing before my TN goes crazy. I just am at a loss and need to figure something out. Because the pain is in my eye, forehead, and top brain area, numbing wouldn't be an answer.
I am already on the highest dosage of Carbamazapine and still have attacks. Nitrous Oxide Gas makes me sick and gives me migraines. I had 2 teeth pulled last year under sedation and that was fine. I know, it's a 'situation' Thanks for the help Red.
I'd suggest that you tell your dentist that you suffer with TN (Make sure he/she knows what TN is--many do not).
Either way, make sure that you bring her/him "up to speed" about our monster. I've struggled with a very similar situation. I'm way overdue to get back on schedule with my dentist...
Due to my TN pain, I haven't had my hair trimmed since the first week in December 2011, or had a long overdue dental exam/hygienist visit. Nobody is going to even come close to touching my face!
There's no way I'd attempt either of these procedures while in one of my pain cycles. That would be the cycle that started just before Christmas 2011 and is on-going.
1200 is what I take daily. I have actually taken 1400 on occassion. Both Neurologists have said 1200 is what they consider max. What do you think of that Red?
OMG....I so get what you are saying Rick. I can open my mouth wide and after seconds would be in a full blown attack. It is so weird. Last time I had a hair cut I didn't have her shampoo my hair and she was very careful and fast about the cutting procedure. Hope you can get your things done too.
That's about the maximum level I've seen in a sustained medication profile. A few patients can tolerate more than 1200 mg per day of Tegretol in short exposures, but most find the side effects too much to tolerate.
