Day 7 of ketamine infusion recovery of trigeminal neuralgia experience

I am feeling better today… I’m still having my same pain in my mouth the throbbing stabbing pain in my mouth however it’s bare able… I’m having trouble walking to my full potential due to ketamine infusion peocedure and equilibrium being off some… I only sleep in 2-3 hour increments… I feel that I will gradually get back to normal activities slowly day by day… Im ready to perform my workly duties as normal 9-6 job Monday through Friday I’m a floor supervisor at a cell phone company that handles customers complaints all day long. I walk the floor 8 hours a day to help representatives and customers but I have I have passion for my job. Thats me and I like that… I’m ready to get back to my normal everyday life style. Even during my last last year of struggle with TN I struggled to work to perform my duties even in pain and tried to keep a positiive upbeat attitude no matter how hard it was because I had everybody depending on me representatives and customers. Now I feel useless and not able to do anything. I know that God is on my side and will strengthen me and I will stay strong and be back soon

I got up this morning and my husband helped me walked to neighbors house and I staggered twice but I made it… I’m determined to make it and each day get stronger and stronger. With the support of my TN support page, my family, friends, ministry, most important The Lord on my Side I will make it

Your body and brain have been through a lot!!!!

I've only read of one other experience here and am very curious of yours ---

the other poster was "under" for 4-5 days --- how long was yours?

Is this your first major proceedure _ I consider it invasive -- and extreme-ish

WHERE did you have this done -- I'm collecting a list should I ever be faced with another MVD (doing good for now)

Can you rate your pain before and after the procedure and after - and what have they told you prognosis would be?

THANKS - and keep in touch!

I was diagnosed with TN about 6 Mth ago but dealing with pain a year ago… I’ve have up to 4 procedures startingvwith root canal a year ago in April 2011, removing 3 teeth due to pain between April- July … Then Gamma knife radiation treatment November 2011… The doctors stated they had tonsee if treatment would work and had to give 3 months so no ease in pain so I waited and was referred to my 6th specialist in Winston Salem to do phenopalatine ganglion block of nerve on may 14 2012 and was still in pain so still I was in pain with no relief that’s how the dr came to conclusion to set procedure to do ketamine infusion… So this has been a challenge for me

Felicia -

I wish you the best of outcomes. I'd also like to know a bit more detail about the procedure (ketamine infusion), if you'd be willing to share.

God be with you.

Was it at a teaching hospital? How long were you there?

It was an outpatient procedure.! I was at pain clinic md. The ketamine infusion procedure is a strong drug that moves through your body and shuts your brain down… On line doesn’t give you a lot of information however I may have to do two more infusion to see results for pain to ease in my mouth… My nerves is so damaged due to my root canal a year ago

I’ll be anxious to bear how it goes for you. i wish you the best.

This is very interesting since they have started to use this treatment for depression and I have major depression as well as TN. Sorry you seem to be our guinea pig for this treatment but if it works it could be great news for us all.

Hi, I wish you the best. Get well soon !

Please keep us posted. I have not met anyone who has done this, though my doctor has mentioned it in the past when I asked him about a similar procedure they do for CRPS.

For CRPS, they induce a coma for 1-2 weeks and give larger amounts of ketamine. Since you are in the coma, they give TONS of ketamine, more than anyone could ever handle while conscious. It's said to "reset" the pain and they wake up pain free. I believe this is only being done at Johns-Hopkins, and the actual coma inducing part is only done in Germany in Mexico. This could have changed sit I last researched it.

I asked my doctor if he was doing any research to use that procedure for facial pain. He said it was "very interesting" and that's when he told me they currently do ketamine infusions with low doses on an outpatient procedure. This sounds like what you had done. He never offered it to me, but I've since been very interested in ketamine and its role in curing or managing pain disorders.

Again, any more info you can give, or just keeping us posted on how it works out for you would be appreciated. I think it's fantastic you had this done, and I'm hoping you have a great outcome. Fingers crossed!

I have to go back and find the other poster who did this for a four day stay -- but with only a few days of relief --- I think it's something that will be up and coming perhaps for us! I could use a medical coma with all the sleep I've lost this year LOL just joking!

I really appreciate your response and will definetly keep u posted right now we waiting to see how the ketamine infusion is working and to see I’f we have to do another on so will keep you posted… Thanks for your support
