I recently increased my Trileptal from 300mg once a day to 300mg 2x a day. Now I’m itching like crazy. Benadryl seems to help but I just double tired bc of the meds + Benadryl. Any thoughts?
I think you need to consult with a licensed physician, Mechelle. The itching you describe might possibly be the first stages of a rare but dangerous allergy condition called Stevens Johnson Syndrome. If you can't get an appointment with your prescribing physician, then consult with your pharmacist.

You’re so awesome, Red! Thank you for your advice. I called my Neuro who told me that it’s probably just skin allergies since I don’t have a rash. I’ve never had skin allergies. And that itching without a rash is hardly likely. He makes me feel so crazy. He increased my meds bc my pain increased & I was waking up with crazy one-sided headaches that decreased once I sat up in bed. Almost as though the pressure were decreased. I do have a benign skull based brain tumor. More than likely the tumor (in my trigeminal nerve) coupled with gamma knife in 2011 causes my pain. Decreasing the meds invites the pain back. And I’m disappointed that he dismissed my itching. Gonna contact my pharmacist. Thank you kindly.
Blood pressure does change when you first wake up, but it generally increases. With a history of benign skull base tumor and Gamma Knife, there are multiple potential factors that could contribute to hemi-crania. I think you need a different neurologist.

I think you’re right. Just spoke with my pharmacist who agreed that more than likely the itching may be caused by the increase in meds. She said I needed to see a different Neuro. I found a Neuro on here at Duke University by the name of Dr Wolfgang Liethe. I’m close to the Raleigh area & scheduled an appt with him. Of course, his next availability isn’t until August. For now, I’m stuck with my current Neuro who dismisses me bc he continues to prescribe Trileptal- which I need. I’m gonna cut back to one pill a day & increase it when my major headaches, that I get in my sleep, return. They decrease when I sit up. But man oh man are they a doozy. Feel stuck right now between a rock & a hard place…
