After the most painful, long weekend in my jourmey with TN, today was much better. The wind set off a attack last Fruday so severe I called the neurologist on the way to the ER. The pain was severe, intense and constant for 10 hours. I’m sure I took way too much pain medication, but in desperation I really didn’t care. My neuro upped my neurontin dose from 600mg/day to 1800mg/day. So now I reside in zombie land, but the pain and discomfort have lessened greatly. Now I have a new symptoms or trigger. Friday the pain was everywhere on the left side of my face, sensitive to breezez, talking, chewing etc. Today the pain is centered around my second left upper molar, which is completely new. I can’t touch, look at or rest my cheek against that tooth or the pain makes my want to scream. Now, the question is, Is this a dental thing or is it truely TN. Making an appointment with the dentist in the morning to rule any possible dental issues. My lips still tingle and my gums are numb, but no obvious swelling or inflammaion visible or noted, I have decided Klonopin is my new best friend in this fight, bummer I can’t take it all when I’m working or its the unemployment line for me,
Kristin,
The pain can change. Mine was more widespread but eventually settled in one area. And my tooth pain was the tooth under the most severe lip pain. You mentioned resting your cheek against that tooth - my guess is TN. But mine is now in a larger area again. And the pain is slightly different. I think it is normal to have the pain to change. I’m sorry you are in pain.

How is your pain? I just saw your blog and I am so sorry you are suffering. I had pain settle in a tooth like this but it eventually moved on. Before having any dental work, I would make sure the dentist is positive there is a problem. From other peoples’ stories, it sounds as if some dentists think there are problems so try to resolve them but make the TN pain worse. Hang in there. We are here for you.
XOXO
Debbie
I’m sorry that you’ve been in so much pain. I had the same thing happen with one of my molars too. The pain would progress through out the day to the point of being unbearable and the next morning it was o.k. and the cycle continued. This lasted for about 3 weeks and now it’s gone. i’m taking 15oo mg neurontin and I’m getting through the day. I try to keep busy and my mind on other things so I don’t get discouraged. I was out recently on a very windy day and it didn’t bother me right away but couple of hours later my face was swollen and the pain lasted for a couple of days. Was that the same for you? How was your visit to the dentist? I never know what to expect from day to day.
I hope you are feeling better and wishing you pain free days ahead.
I’m so sorry to hear your pain is so severe. My sister had pain like you are describing for 2 years off and on. Her dentist said she did not have any problems with her teeth and her primary Dr. gave her TN medication (Tegretol) to relieve the pain. Her pain was unlike myself. Instead of a strike, or instant pain she had pain that radiated for about 10 hrs then went away. She would say the pain was more around her tooth. Another Dentist she went to, xrayed her teeth and said they were fine.
Then 2 years later she went to another Dentist and he found an abscess tooth right off. He did a root canal , crowned it and she has never taken medication again for TN. She was very fortunate, that this Dentist found her problem, thought I might add because it sounds so familiar. Think I would get another Dentist’s opinion. I do hope you are feeling better soon.
