I have been using carbamazine and gabapentin they were both costing me $5.00 every 3 months now the carbamazine has gone up to $75.16. I use both of them 4 times a day. Do you know of anything else I can use for my TN I was using the carbamazine 5 times a day but my doctor said after a while you should come of them as they don't work after a while. I tried but the pain started coming back hard. I am using the mouth wash when ever the pain hits hard. But I try not to use it too much. As I'm afraid of it brothering my sugar. Please let me know about the carbamazine as I have to go to the doctor next week.
Have you tried the slow release version of Tegretol?
It lasts longer in your system and you might not need as much or as high a dosage.
Something to inquire about…
I used a microwaveable heating pad to help take the edge off as well as a lidocaine mixed cream called Emla.
Prior to my MVD I was also on baclofen which helps to boost the effectiveness of tegretol as well I was on Dilantin.

I use the lidocaine pads on my back because of an operation to remove a tumor between my 4 & 5 vertebrae. They say I have pain in there because of scare tissue and nerve damage from the operation. I can't use Dilantin as I had a bad reaction from it. At one time they had me take Lyrica but I ended up with cognitive heart failure. Now with the TN one doctor kept telling me I had sinus tytus and giving me pills for that. When I went in the hospital for the heart failure. I had a TN attack they did test and told me it wasn't sinus tytus it's TN.
