Can you have TN on one side and then develope it on the other side

i hve IITN and ON on the right side i have had it for many years now. i get cluster headaches on the left side now it seems that i am having pain that feels like TN on the left side it hurts my teeth when i eat and im getting a stabbing pain in my cheek. the pain sets off the cluster headaches. is that possible?

From the research I've done on the internet, I beleive I did read that it can progress to both sides of the face...sorry. I hope your feeling better. What therapy are you on?

im on alot of meds but they dont seem to be working even though the doesage has been increased im having alot of break thru pain and ive had surgery twice and gamma knife surgery in may i also hve occipital neuralgia on the right side. i have an appt with my surgeon on the 13th of this month and i am concidering asking him about the surgery that severs the nerves com;letely

I'm so sorry you are in so much pain to consider something so drastic. I hope you find some relief. I'v just been taking herbal stuff. I don't know if it's helping or if I'm not in as much pain as others. I can't talk at times, and I'm living on frostys, cream soups and pudding. I take B vit, Vit D, SciaticaNeuralgia drops by Natra Bio, Nerve Sheild vitamin, Monolaurith, a homeopatihic called nerve fix and magnesium. I dont have pain unless i talk, eat, brush my teeth or wash my face, then I get a fire of pain and it goes away. Your very brave, and been through a lot. I hope you find a solution to help.

i have tried herbal and homeopathic but no help. i cant eat even oatmeal hurts and so does drinking. its setting off headaches. im not screaming yet but it brings me to tears quite often. the meds im on arent working to well even though they have been increased. ive been on the floor screaming before and i dont want to go there again. i cant stand the thought of this being on both sides.

There is talk of a botox injection that is suppose to give relief for about 90 days. I'm looking into that, maybe they'll throw in my forhead for free! I'm also looking into topical compounds. Did the gamma knife give you ANY releif, how was the cost? Hang in there, there is only one way this can go, there has to be something that can help.

Booboo, Please be VERY careful about neurectomy (severing a nerve). You could wind up with deafferentiation pain when your central nervous system tries to "find" the area of your face that is isolated by the neurectomy -- and can't. Your medical options for treating that sort of pain are much more restricted than for TN itself.

I've talked with at least a hundred patients over the years who have pain on both sides (bilateral TN), sometimes a mixture of Typical and Atypical forms. My spouse is one of those who have that pattern.

gamma hasnt given me any relief yet and im not sure about the cost my insurance picked it up. but i was told there is less of a chance of success because i had two other surgeries already. he said that had i had this done first the success rate would have been better. ive been in pain since thursday. and its just getting worse and bouncing from right to left and then theres the occipital neuralgia and the cluster headaches and migraines are being set off. i feel like this is the worst night mare of my life and i cant wake up. ive been through this before but the left side wasnt involved. i know it must sound like im wining but this is the first time that ive ever been able to tell someone how this feels that gets it. by boyfriend is wonderful and he tries but he still doesnt get it

so what treatments has she had and did any work? how long had she had it?

My spouse has had good responses to both Tegretol and Neurontin. She first presented with pain in her palate and behind her right eye in 1996. She switched at her own request to 2700 mg per day of Neurontin since 2002. She obtains very good pain control, even though she continues to have a low-level background of achy Type II pain behind her eye, and occasional twinges of Type I jabs in her left cheek and jaw. Unlike many members here, she has few cognitive or balance side effects from this medication.

Regards and best,

. i am on trileptal, neurotin, verapamil, flexeril, and imitrex. i have tried tegretol but i had neg side fx from it. and im still in this pain

I do understand how you feel, I'm having a bad day myself. But remember that with this there are good days and bad days (maybe not good, but ok days), so remember there is light around the corner. Hang in there!
