Thank you sherrilboren! You have confirmed what my intuition has told me- if I need more than a simple filling have extraction, and dentures when needed. I am 41 and don’t want dentures but even more I don’t want TN pain.
Thanks guys…it really is the only way…
NOW TO ASK, do I want ones screwed in as implanted into jaw or just put em in a glass…,.not…I guess I’ll sleep with them in!
I’m 50, but newlywed, and those teeth will not be seen OUT…unless he’s not here LOL…VANITY
My Doctor in India is Dr. Prasanth Pillai in Kochi. The cost of my implants and trips were borne by a dear friend who couldn't stand my pain, and could afford such a luxury. Me insurance was only for covering a denture every few years as they had been from when I was about 26 till I began this procedure at 63 years of age. I won't say it was painless, it was a lot of work because I had very little crestal bone and they needed to use bi-cortical screws. Their work was ingenious. He said my mouth was the worst he had worked on... but they persevered and $30000 later, including three one month trips and great lodging and all my dental, I am now beginning to feel alive again. As a bonus, when I stopped taking my meds after my MVD, I have dropped 30lbs from about 208 to 175. What else could I ask for?

Lawrence Rae said:I have had 24 implants during my TN illness and since my last MVD. I had dentures for 40 years and had a number of places in my lower jaw with exposed roots. I had to go to India to have my implants done because of cost and because of the type of implants needed for my lack of crestal bone. I am now finished with my dentisty, a full mouth restoration, and I have no pain, dental or TN. I can only thank God for it all, but my Dentist in Kochi India was tremendous and so was my neurosurgeon in Vancouver Canada. If you want further communication about this, let me know.
Money money money....ask your friend if they do adoptions...lol
I am sooo Happy for you....My goodness. That is a lot of dental work and yes even pain in the process.
I can relate to your weight loss, not only prior to all the procedures. I know I often eat soft easy and creamy foods just to fill my stomach and get medications down...I absolutely feel I have spent in my life time near $100,000 bucks Doing the here and there root canals, crowns, and on and on and on....
At this point, I want to be healthy as I can. I am in remission with my NHL which four out of ten patienst having Sjogrens could be diagnosed. no radiation however as the Sjogrens is and was so severe we could not include it...just a heavy dosage of Rituxin and two parotid gland removal surgeries. Today I return for maintenance chemo/infusion I should say..and with the same drug. It just happens to work for aggressive RA which tags along with my autoimmune disorders..It appears that if you have Sjogrens you will have one other hit you ????? And Raynauds too.
So, I mostly focus on one day at a time. Be the best I can for that day...I try to plan ahead especially for our holidays upon us...But, doing the things I use to do....hummmm I never know what tomorrow brings and MUST go with the what ever comes my way...
By the way I just turned 64, we have five generations. extremely healthy and not one person has dealt with cancer or the other issues. We all are 20 to 24 years apart...and yes, I am a great grandma at 64 with the little ones agas 4, twins are 3, then a two year old and baby at 10 months. Life is good.
Thank you for your story....I will file this doctors name and definitely yours..for future contact. You just never know, right
Please keep posting...many of us can so relate and appreciate your time and entry...
stay well, you have given us hope

Get dentures. Definitely. I was in your place a couple years ago. My teeth were breaking but I was so scared to have them done. Then my allergist told me if he didn't know me like he did, he would have thought I was a crack addict. yep. I couldnt even find a dentist that would touch me let alone a oral surgeon. I ended up with a child dentist who worked with an older oral surgeon who actually understood tn. they decided i should try to keep the teeth they could fix and go with partials instead of taking everything out. I was scared, I really did not want to be wearing dentures at only 42 years old so I went with repair and partials. It was a disaster. One of the teeth they repaired was used to hold the partial in. It kept breaking apart so i went thru hell while they tried to fix it. The pain was so bad I was crying which really upset my poor hygenist He decided I had to either have that tooth extracted or a root canal. I was done. I had the rest of my teeth pulled and now have full upper and lower dentures which I should have just done in the first place. I put myselft through so much unneccessary suffering. Its not just the root canals and crowns. I dont have to deal with the pain of trying to brush everyday. I have "atypical" tn that is always on with triggers causing attacks that are just indescribable, which I am sure everyone can relate to. My constant pain is cheek, temple, forehead, with my 3rd brach pain only caused by triggers like cold or brushing my teeth. I have done all the treatments, surgeries, and procedures which did not work and some increased the damage. Last year I tried a stimulator chich caused so much more irreparable I was told that was it. There is nothing else to try. The best I can hope for is to find a way to keep the pain somewhat controlled. One more thing I have found not only to I not have to deal with the pain from brushing my teeth but the dentures have eliminated a lot of the pain from hot and cold.
This is probably more than I should have written. I've never posted anything before. I really hope this helps you.
I'm in the same boat. I actually went in FOR a root canal and that's what CAUSED my TN. The dentist injected me and hit the trigeminal nerve. He never put a solid filling in. In fact, he used SILVER....Who in the HELL uses silver fillings anymore?? Anyways, I had two R.C. done and I'm too scared to go in for the crowns. The teeth are starting to break because they haven't been crowned and there's no solid filling. I don't know what to do. I'm only 30 and I actually LIKE how I look with the exception of my teeth. I just don't want to look like a hillbilly but I'm TERRIFIED of going in for any work now. On top of the pain the cost is JUST as bad. I don't know what to do either.
I also have pain in a tooth thatbhas had a root canal and crown. The endontist as rexrayed it for me several times but the roots have healed fine. A pan xray also showed nothing. I know it is TN but I keep hoping it will be a solveable dental issue.
Wow....after my TMJ from a pulled tooth and TN that also started right after a pulled tooth but this time a bridge put in, I've always said there's no way I would get a root canal. I have heard horror stories just from the dental office never mind what I've been hearing here!!
The fear because of the pain of the dental chair has kept me from it. Thank God!
I sympathize will all of who have gone through the agony and still are!!
I'll get a tooth pulled before I'd get a root canal. I was 8 when I had to go to the dentist and I had 2-3 crowns put on which I guess was root canal.
It was a child specialist which cost more money and he was effin alwful! I still remember the agony and he hit me on the back of my hand with something heavy and metal and I got a bruise on the back of my hand, my Mother said she was going to sue but I have no idea what happened afterwards. Horrible, simply horrible!!! But because my teeth were not taken care of properly I made sure my children's teeth were better taken care of and I'm happy to say that they are not too traumatized by the thought of the dentist, except of course those stupid wisdom teeth.
Teeth hurt to come in and they hurt to come out!! It sucks but it especially sucks when a Trigeminal nerve is affected because of them. I was 32 when TMJ entered my life. 22 years ago, then TN came in 5 years ago.
Yesterday started out good and it would have been really good but the simple task of talking always gets into pain for me.
Thankfully I was able to end the visits and just calm my face and up my meds so that it didn't go full force.
O what a way to live! Thankfully I appreciate my solitude but I'm talkin 50/50 not 90/10.
At least now I know that my Dentist knows about TN so I won't feel like that idiot anymore, or not as much, lol.

I wish I had a answer for you. It seems to be such a crap shoot. Hugs <3
The Trigeminal Nerve Branch 2 and 3 are the nerves to the teeth. So while the tooth is dead, the nerve is still feeling sensation. I could so relate to the commenting here about crowns. I have the same problem with my upper front left tooth. It is not often a dental problem, but a TN neurological one. Believe it or not I got good tooth pain relief when my neurologist was able to help me get the TN pain under control. Personally, I think dental schools are totally lacking when it comes to teaching future dentists about the nerve. Shoot, it is the TN nerve they numb. You would think they would know more. NOT!
I actually had THEE local regional dean of dentistry university…
Said noooo correlation between my oral surgery and the DAY OF TN starting.
That was oct 2010, maybe i should call up and see if they have learned anything in three years!
We are all curious …when my oral surgery was on left…TN ROARED only on right side… Because it was the whiplash he gave while sawing and pulling on opposite side?
How can I ever even find a denture TN GURU.?
My my my.....I don't think people in the field of dentistry want to think or say that there is a correlation period! But there are just too many people who have had problems after and not just TN but many cases of TMJ too. Common sense will dictate the truth better. My neurologist didn't believe either way, there is no proof either way. For me I know what I know, TMJ after a molar pulled while I was "out" and TN after a tooth pulled and a bridge put in. It's not a coincidence at all!! But I also have severe pain from chronic sinusitis right where my bridge is and the same happened to my sister with a bridge so who knows. Sometimes I've got all 3 going on and it's pretty challenging to figure out which one to treat! Today I treated the TMJ and the sinus pain and it went away. Thank you God!!
That doesn't mean necessarily that you'll get a major flare up after having a tooth or teeth pulled. Kind of like Russian roulette. How badly do you need these teeth pulled??
I don't think I would want anyone working on my teeth who wouldn't be very careful not to cause a flare up in worsening my condition, with the frame of mind of........ just in case there is a correlation.
Lots of pros and cons to weigh!
I wish you all the best.
