After dealing with pain consistent with V2 distribution of the trigeminal nerve, and many failed dental procedures and several medications, I had gamma knife treatment at Mid Michigan Health in Midland, Mi after consulting with Dr. Brian Copeland. I told him during the consult that I had an MRI showing blood vessel compressing on the nerve, but was experiencing almost all atypical symptoms. He felt gamma knife would help so I had it early the next morning with very little time to think about it.
The procedure was done about 10 weeks ago and since then, I have had constant burning pain in all 3 branches of the TN, worse than ever and radiating to my scalp and down my neck as well.
Every time I have called, I was told to wait it out, but by now I should have had some relief. I was hoping others on this site can let me know if they have had a similar experience and if the the pain eventually settled down. Thanks.
Oh, Sorry I just read your profile and the meds you take. I wonder if your doctor could give you something else in the meantime to help with the burning pain. Like tricyclic antidepressants. They really help with my burning pain, and I still take amitriptyline. I feel bad for you and I hope that this gets better soon. Min
I had Gamma Knife in October, 2011. I still experienced pain similar to before the procedure for several weeks. Then, all of a sudden, the pain was gone. I was virtually pain-free for almost one month. Unfortunately, the pain is back and is worse than before my procedure. I was told that I should have the GK or Cyber Knife re-done, rather than go right to the brain surgery.
I was also told to re-start the Neurontin (have you tried this?). I need some relief while I decide what I am going to do.
Let me know how you are and can you tell me- is the burning in your mouth, too?
